cupcakeMAG home: Small Spaces Re-Vamp

For the last few months we have been working with the amazing Newport Cottages, The Land of Nod, Serta, Serena & Lily, Annette Tatum, Belle Patri, Drawstring Studio, Name Your Design, The TomKat Studio Shop and lots more amazing companies to create the perfect space for our latest cupcakeMAG home makeover project! You may recall our last one here, which created quite the buzz here, on Project Nursery.  It is all about focusing on the small spaces trend – creating a wow factor in a small space with big things. Our canvas is a blank 10 x 8 room which we created for 2 sisters.

Baby Ofelia’s Animal Inspired Oasis

This is my first nursery. My fiance and I wanted everything to be extra beautiful for our daughter. We wanted to have a dream nursery… I used a few different painting techniques. I also wanted to incorporate a chair rail and crown molding into this project. The clouds are hand painted by myself and I also painted a few animals into the clouds. (rabbit, giraffe, elephant, zebra)

Lyla’s Hot Pink Room

When we moved into our house, my daughter’s room was deep purple on the top, and light lavender on the bottom with tons of flower decals and quotes on the walls.  There was also dated white carpet, which we have unfortunately not replaced.  So, we tried to make the best of it.
We started by boldly wallpapering one wall.  It is an intense pattern, so we just went with one wall.  Then we painted the walls the same color as the wallpaper background.  Then, we just filled in with mostly white furniture and bold accents on the bed with pillows.  It’s a bright room, and the lightness it has now is so cheery.  My daughter’s favorite thing?  Her desk!  A $49 find at IKEA.  It’s actually a bench, but we used it’s the perfect size for a 4 year old.

Nash’s Vintage Navy Nursery

I wanted to create a nursery that combined all of the elements I love with unique personal touches. I knew there would be my two favorite prints-chevron and greek key.  My statement piece was the huge 1878 reproduction map of Annapolis, MD, as well as the Naval Academy football programs from the 1920s-1970s.  From there I had a blast finding “vintage” items for storage and decor.

Leighton’s Romantic Rose Room

The customer had already purchased some beautiful items and needed some help pulling them all together. She had acquired a decorative scroll hanging that she had hung over the bed, and rather than take it down we decided I should paint around it and that it should become part of the design. The result was a unique three dimensional edge to my decorative cartouche. Elegant Rose vines grace many corners of the room as well as around the cartouche.

Charlie’s Pink and Orange Modern Nursery

When we found out we were having a girl, I knew I didn’t want a super feminine room. I’m a big fan of modern design and “frilly” isn’t my style.  I liked the idea of including a lot of color in her room, so I chose to focus on orange, pink and red. My mom and I DIY’d almost everything in the room – it was a labor of love and I’m thrilled with how it turned out!
