Lyla’s Hot Pink Room

Description

When we moved into our house, my daughter's room was deep purple on the top, and light lavender on the bottom with tons of flower decals and quotes on the walls.  There was also dated white carpet, which we have unfortunately not replaced.  So, we tried to make the best of it.

We started by boldly wallpapering one wall.  It is an intense pattern, so we just went with one wall.  Then we painted the walls the same color as the wallpaper background.  Then, we just filled in with mostly white furniture and bold accents on the bed with pillows.  It's a bright room, and the lightness it has now is so cheery.  My daughter's favorite thing?  Her desk!  A $49 find at IKEA.  It's actually a bench, but we used it's the perfect size for a 4 year old.

Design Inspiration

The whole room was inspired by the wallpaper.  I saw it in Chesapeake Home Magazine, and fell in love.  I loved the color, the trellis pattern, and knew it would look amazing with the venetian mirror we purchased for the wall.  We wanted to keep elements of pink in the room because that was the color of Lyla's room in our old house.  We wanted her to feel right at home.

Decorating Style

Our decorating style is clean with bold punches.  Is that a style?  I like so many things, it's often hard to pick what to do in our own house.  Most of our rooms have neutral furniture with color in the textiles or accent pieces.  Lyla's room is no exception.

Advice

We had to do this whole room quickly, and on a strict budget.  Pretty much everything in here was at bargain prices!  I looked for inspirational photos, and then I scoured online for everything at better prices at big box stores or local resources.

So many pretty and lovely stuff here. Like the different patterned pillows, the bird mobile (is that wood?), the Everyday I Love You poster, and the trellis patterned wallpaper.
