Pattern Play Nursery

We wanted this nursery to be playful and fun, all the while maintaining a neutral palette. Children’s rooms are such a great opportunity to take advantage of mixing prints and patterns, and that was definitely the motivation behind this space. Thanks to the restrained white, grey, and black colour palette, the nursery maintains a sense of serenity despite having a multitude of patterns at play.
The focal point of the nursery is definitely the woodland print wallpaper from Nuwallpaper. It’s peel and stick, so it’s fool proof to put up and easy to change up when the time comes. A subtle stripe printed crib sheet from Pehr Designs, a boho inspired pillow from Tonic Living, and a sweet but modern “Bonne Nuit” are all stand out details in and around baby’s crib. Another fun pop of pattern emerges once the closet door is opened; light grey polka dots adorn the interior and provide a backdrop for baby’s wardrobe, baskets of accessories, and extra blankets. We grounded the entire space with this grey wool rug, and layered cozy sheepskins on top; for a bit of life we brought in a fiddle leaf fig plopped in a concrete planter. The rocking and reading corner was designed off of the white tufted rocking chair paired with a matching moroccan pouf. A hanging wall tapestry and wooden side table bring warmth and texture, while the floor lamp adds the perfect touch of black. The pattern play continues over at the change table, where an industrial mirror with silver and bronze finishes hangs above a star print change cover and tiny skull diapers.
Overall, we think this nursery is a great mix of minimal and whimsical elements! It was a winning combination that allowed for a playful and charming space that doesn’t feel overdone.
