Surfer’s Paradise Nursery

Description

When I found out we were having a boy, I knew I wanted to make his nursery bright and colorful. A surf themed nursery was the obvious choice since surfing is my husband's favorite past time.

Design Inspiration

I knew I wanted to go with fun and bright colors accented with brown. I purchased the BreathableBaby breathable bumper which is brown with blue, orange, green and cream colored strips. I designed the rest of the room based off of these colors.

Project Details

I was surprised that I wasn't able to find a surfboard crib set or surfboard fabric that we liked. So, I sat down and designed my own bedding to match the stripped breathable bumper we bought. I am very lucky to have a mother that is an excellent seamstress! Together we made the two sided quilt; she also made matching sheets, the crib skirt and the surfboard pillow.

My husband and I made the artwork - we hand stitched designs on the felt shaped surfboards then glued them to scrapbook paper using 3m spray. The whole project cost less than $10.

The brown and blue canvas bins are Martha Stewart brand. They were purchased  at Home Depot for $6 a piece.

Favorite Items

The bedding my mother and I made (parts of it was hand stitched!); the porcelain octopus I purchased from Zgallerie; and the personalized surfboard wall decal purchased from VisionsInVinyl on Etsy.
