ToyStorage

Like Johanna mentioned yesterday, storage is key in children's spaces big and small. I just completed a major toy purge this past weekend, and man did it feel good. Most days I feel like toys, books and art supplies are taking over my entire house. I'm always trying to improve the organization of my kids' rooms, and when I can't fit things neatly out of sight, I rely on shelving. The Container Store is a great place to pick up essential storage items. I always feel a renewed sense of organization when I visit the store. They even share some toy storage tips we can all appreciate. If you are feeling inspired to maximize your own small space or you're just trying to prevent your children's toys from taking over your own home, don't miss their annual Elfa shelving sale going on now. Do you have great tips for getting organized? Let us know by commenting on this post. Photos courtesy of The Container Store

Lunch Punch

Need a PB&J makeover? Does your turkey sandwich lack luster? My little guy can get pretty darn particular when it comes to sandwich making. One week it's plain peanut butter while the next week only jelly is allowed to touch his bread. But when I pull out the Lunch Punch, I know that I don't have to worry about his picky sandwich preferences because it will get eaten! When The Lunch Punch was first introduced into my home, my biggest mistake was storing our bread within a 4-year-old's reach. He tore open The Lunch Punch packaging, swiped a loaf of bread and declared that he needed to make eight sandwiches as he proceeded to "punch" an entire loaf! How's that for a customer satisfaction? These clever little sandwich cutters come in four fun themes, are bpa-free and dishwasher safe. Kids will love making their own sandwiches for school. And as a mom, it's really satisfying to see their faces light up; not to mention, the extra time and effort is minimal. The Lunch Punch makes for a great gift this back-to-school season and also encourages quality time in the kitchen! We give The Lunch Punch an A+ for creativity and fun! Find it on sale here today for 24-hours only!

Back to School

My daughter started Kindergarten this week, and we have been having a blast getting her "prepped" for big girl school. No, I am not talking about pencil cases or notebooks, but of course her wardrobe and gear (aka the fun stuff). Here are some of my favorite must-haves for the 2011 back-to-school season. Stella is your typical 5-year-old fashionista. We are mildly obsessed with crewcuts and all things Justice. Here are some of Stella's picks for back-to-school. Sequins are so hot right now (most little girls love anything that sparkles), and this silver sequin bag makes a perfect accessory. Beaded bracelets, like this one from J. Crew, are a Stella essential—the more jewels the better. And to get some of that kindergarten fashion inspiration, J. Crew released a fashion-inspired coloring book—Vogue for kids! Back-to-school fashion is not just for girls. Little boys can rock the hallways looking just as cool. Here are some of my picks for the little dudes starting school. Tees with ties never go out of style, and this one from Blumegirl is my favorite. Matched with old school chucks and a vintage-inspired cap from crewcuts, you are one cool dude. Backpacks and lunch boxes are all the rage at back-to-school time. There are so many fun choices on the market, but here are my top selections. Crewcuts tulle-around backpack is a scream. I think I would go back to school just to be able to carry this. And for boys, I love this skull and cross …

KiddoSafe Shade

After the numerous nationwide recalls of various shades, KiddoSafe Shades realized there was a need for shades that are entirely cordless. With their patent-pending button closure design, they've found a way to allow you to raise your shade without the use of any strings or cords. You simply fold the shade up and attach the button to the loop on either side of the shade. KiddoSafe Shades are customized to your window's dimensions and come in a variety of fabric choices. If you don't find that perfect fabric in stock, they allow you to choose from a larger selection of fabrics for a small delivery charge. All shades include a blackout liner—a must for any nursery. Every extra minute of sleep counts! Their button closure design allows for one-handed operation, so even with your baby in your arms you will be able to raise and lower the shade. WIN IT! One lucky Project Nursery reader will get their choice of any one of KiddoSafe's custom shades up to 48" wide in any in-stock fabric. (Each shade is custom made to the customer's specifications and takes about 4-6 weeks to make.) To enter, visit our friends at KiddoSafe Shades and share with us in a comment which fabric choice is your favorite. Contest ends Friday, September 16, 2011 at 11:59 PST. I don't know about you, but if I see another blinking, noise-making toy in my home, I may go crazy. Don't get me wrong those toys have their time and place, but if I have the option to chose a simple, open-ended play toy for my son, I'll pick it every day of the week. The Learning Materials Workshop's amazing line of toys focuses on building and creating, which ensures that your child will be putting their imagination to work. My particular favorite is one of their new building sets, Coloraturo. Half wooden block building set, half puzzle—the play options are endless. One great thing about this set is that it will grow with your child. While recommended for children 3+, my two-year-old loves lining up the blocks, naming the colors and making simple stacks and shapes. Older kids will love the unique puzzle aspect of these blocks (the notched pieces fit into one another)—add a little imagination, and your child will be creating all sorts of interesting constructions. Okay, so this might be the design junky in me, but I like my kid's toys to look pretty too. My son may not care as much as I do, but maybe he'll pick up a preference for clean lines and simple design via osmosis if I keep toys like this around—you can never start a healthy interest in design too early! I love that this set looks fantastic just sitting on a shelf in your child's room; I can even …

RH Baby & Child Nursery

The RH Baby & Child Fall catalog arrived on my doorstep last week. Did you get it? What caught your eye? Perhaps it was their beautiful iron cribs, sparkling chandeliers or luxurious crib bedding? I look forward to browsing through their portfolio of rooms to keep my finger on the pulse of the ultimate pulled together, traditional with a twist baby nursery. I noticed the new Millbrook bronze cribs on page 20 because I love how RH Baby & Child paired the rustic cribs with glamorous crystal chandeliers. BUT, the real showstopper in the room was the darling toddler girl. I had to do a double take because I realized it was my friend, and dedicated PN reader, Denise's daughter. It was so fun to see her sweet face, and it reminded me that although I love a great looking nursery, the little people that inhabit them are the real stars.
