Project Details

We hope our nursery can inspire others to spark their creative energy and help convert that boring white walled room into a little baby's paradise!

Here is, step by step, how we designed Matthew's nursery.

1) choose a paint color: This is by far one of the hardest things to do.  The paint color will set the tone of the room.  It took us a few trips to the hardware store to finally select the right color for us.  My advice is to go to your local hardware store and take home a bunch of the free paint swatches.  Take a few days to think about it and then narrow it down to your top 3.  Then go to the store again and purchase small sample pints of the paint.  Try those colors on your wall in a large enough section and then choose what YOU like, after all if you like it, your baby will LOVE it!

The Paint: Benjamin Moore HC-144 Palladian Blue

We used B.Moore paint because through our experience it provided the best 1st coat coverage.  It's really the best quality paint out there.  Just use a mid-priced base when they ask..

2) choosing furniture: Nothing is easy when it comes to putting together your baby's nursery! Furniture is no exception!

The Crib, Dresser with Hutch and Changing Station, and Bookshelf:  Oeuf Classic Collection in Walnut  (Simple Shapes)

Luckily, we knew that we wanted to go the modern contemporary route.  That narrowed the selection down to a few boutique brands, but when we saw the Oeuf classic collection, we knew that this was The One!

Rocker/Glider Reclining Arm Chair:  Monte Design Grano Glider (Monte Design Group)

This was an easy choice because there are really not many modern contemporary rocker/gliders out there.  We looked EVERYWHERE and really the choices were limited.  We're glad we finally found Monte because their designs are so clean.  Also the quality is top notch and the gliding motion is so smooth.  Matthew LOVES nursing on this!

Side Table: Martini Side Table (West Elm)

The perfect complement to your rocker/glider!  The martini table so SOO cute and really sturdy too!  Its completely made out of metal!

Area Rug: West Elm (West Elm)

If you have hardwood or tile floors you definitely want to invest in large area rug.  It will warm up the room and be useful when your little one starts to crawl.  You definitely want to go to the store to pick this one out because you will want to touch and feel the texture of the rug.  Pick something that not only looks nice but is somewhat soft to the touch too!

3) finishing with accessories:  The last and final step which will personalize your nursery and make it originally YOURS!

Lighting 1: Tripod Wood Floor Lamp (West Elm)

Lighting 2: Basisk Floor Lamp (IKEA)

Accent Lamp: OFFI Dachshund Lamp (Design Public)

If you're like us and have NO built in room lighting, you need to look for some quality Floor lamps and accent table lamps.   We LOVE the dachshund lamp from OFFI.  We actually use it as a night light too! Check out the design public website for other cool accesories too!

Curtains: Bella Porte Citrine Curtain Panel (Crate and Barrel)
We love how the curtains add a splash of color to the room.  All of the yellows match perfectly!

Wall Decal: Birch Tree with Owl and Birds with Custom Name (Simple Shapes)  Our photo is featured on their website! :0)

We came across Simple Shapes website while searching for wall decals and then found that they sold the Oeuf furniture we wanted too!  They have a great selection of wall decals and we thought the Birch Tree with Owl and Birds design would be the perfect fit!  In the end with the furniture we purchased, the decal was free!!! The quality of the decal is AMAZING..  we had it up in about 1 1/2 hours with the help of the nifty applicator tool they included.. also, it helps if you have a helper when you install it but if not just take your time!  (especially if your pregnant!)

Large Dolls: Giraffe and Deer Stuffed Animals (Melissa and Doug)

Audio System:  Panasonic HC-55 (Panasonic)

This is a lifesaver for us!  It has an Ipod dock, CD player and will connect wirelessly to your Iphone so that you can play music from your phone through the stereo!  Perfect to play some lullabies at bedtime!
