Running into the living room only to be blinded by the light bouncing off a shiny red Schwinn bicycle sitting under the tree was like getting a Maserati at sixteen. I'll never forget the fancy, big red bike my parents—I mean Santa—brought me for Christmas. Nevermind that it looked like a racing bike built for the Tour de France and probably was not the ideal ride for a nine-year-old; in my opinion, it was the coolest bike ever. Even at an early age, I understood the impact of the Schwinn name and brand recognition. My fashion sense, on the other hand (as seen here in a handmade sweater I also got that day), must have came later in life... While the bike of my 1980 childhood dreams isn't exactly what I had in mind for my nearly 2-year-old and 4-year-old, I do have big bike plans in mind for their Santa surprise this holiday season. The iconic Schwinn is still the perfect family bicycle—boasting hip and slightly retro designs for the entire family. I have my sights set on their Gremlin appropriately named for my big one. Now for the two and under crowd, topping Santa's list is the ultimate balance bike for kids ages 1 to 5, otherwise known as Wishbone. Find it carefully curated and on sale in our Opensky store. Lastly, kudos to the folks at Schwinn for their intuitive website that genuinely helps you choose the right bike for each member of your family. I'll be found watching their …

To get us in the mood for the holidays, over the next couple weeks, our Project Nursery experts and contributors will be sharing favorite holiday gifts that either they received as a child or their children received. Join in on the conversation. What was your favorite gift?   Julie: As a little girl, my favorite Hanukkah gift was the newest “cut-out-and-dress-up” paper doll book that my parents would get for me every year (normally night five of Hanukkah). When I was eight years old, they found me adding glitter and paint to the dresses of one doll and trimming the hem on another, so they began to realize a creative profession was looming in my future. This “Fancy Nancy” book reminds me of the books I loved as a little girl. I love Rosie Flo's Fashion Show, which allows you to color and stage your own paper fashion show. Melissa and Doug take “dress-up” dolls to a new dimension with their magnetic wooden dress-up dolls. Alessia: Of all my childhood Christmases, the ones I remember with great pleasure are those when I have received yet another figurine for my Smurfs collection. I was obsessed with the Smurfs, and I “had to have” the complete village! Since my parents wisely never gave it to me all at once, I always had room to wish for more. This kept me well engaged in writing strategic letters to Santa for several years. If your children have a passion for something, add a little piece each year, and they will …

Vintage-Style Play Kitchen from KidKraft

My son woke up one Christmas morning to an impressive KidKraft Play Kitchen from Santa. In an instant, it became a favorite playtime activity that never seems to get old. I get a kick out of watching his imagination run wild as a pretend chef; he often makes me plastic hot dogs and peas for breakfast. I love the fact that it's not plastic like some other brands. KidKraft Play Kitchens boast sturdy construction, and it has held up beautifully—now my youngest can pretend to microwave his meals alongside his brother. The kitchen sits flush against the wall in our little play area, but when his buddies come over to play, it's certainly large enough to accommodate multiple kids and hours of entertainment! Find it on sale here today for 24-hours only!

Christmas Cookie Oreos

I'm so excited to be joining the Project Nursery team. I've been professionally designing parties at Frog Prince Paperie for little ones for about two years now, and I have so many tips that I can't wait to share with you all that make entertaining for kids and baby showers just a bit easier and a little more fun. I thought we'd start with dessert tables—a huge trend that's now become a party staple. Everyone at some point has seen the gorgeous dessert spreads at parties where every little sweet is picture perfect and thought, "I want do that!" And then reality sets in—you would  have to spend hours (and hours) making all those treats or spend a small fortune to buy them all. But really, you don't! With a bag of candy melts and a few sprinkles, you can make store bought goodies look stunning. Here are a few quick tips to make dazzling desserts in a fraction of the time: Make brownie pops. They're an even tastier substitute for the cake pop. Buy two-bite brownies pre-made, then mash and roll each one into a ball—no bowl needed. The brownies are moist enough all on their own to keep their shape. Dip into candy melts just like you would a cake pop, but now you've skipped the cake-making work. These are also great rolled in coconut! Buy your cupcakes. Order them at the grocery store with just the frosting, and then add your own sprinkles, flowers or toppers. You'll match your …

I was one of those kids that grew up watching The Muppet Show. One of my favorite Christmas memories is when Santa brought my brothers and me each a Muppet puppet—Kermit, Animal, Rowlf the Dog and Miss Piggy. Can you guess who received Miss Piggy? Santa was so clever because the set of gifts was perfect for siblings that ranged in age from ten to two. With the release of the new Muppet Movie, I wanted to share some fun gift ideas for this holiday season! 1. Muppet Monopoly Game via Amazon 2. Muppets Miss Piggy Plush Toy from Disney 3. Muppets Kermit Plush Toy from Disney 4. The Muppet Movie - Kermit's 50th Anniversary Edition (1979) via Amazon 5. The Muppet Show Poster via Amazon 6. Muppets Fozzie the Bear Plush Toy from Disney 7. Animal Plush Toy via Amazon

Michelle was one of our Project of the Month finalists a couple months back, and we loved all her DIY projects but especially her innovative use of contact paper for her the awesome polka dot nursery wall in her son's baby room. Thank you, Michelle, for sharing with our readers! I desperately wanted over-sized, whimsical, silver polka dots for the walls of my gender-neutral nursery. The $220 price tag for special ordering polka dot wall decals was ridiculous. I knew I could do it myself for less. And I did! Actually, I came up with a fantastic solution for less than $40! I’m excited to share how I made my polka dots with the Project Nursery community and hope other baby mama’s find this tutorial helpful. Believe it or not, my polka dots are made with silver contact paper from a home improvement store. It’s sold in 18-inch by 6-foot rolls in the appliance section. Apparently, people use it to make it look like they have stainless steel appliances—who knew? Any color or pattern of contact paper will work. Project list: Contact paper, circle cutter, credit card, self-healing mat and something heavy to weigh down the contact paper (I used oversized candlesticks) 1. Spread the contact paper out on top of the self-healing mat and hold it in place with your heavy objects. 2. Gently smooth out any wrinkles with the credit card. 3. Set the circle cutter to your desired size and cut, cut, cut! My dots are five inches …

Follow Me Domino

Holiday giving is in the air, and while I was pondering my list for my kidlets, I had a childhood flashback—my little brother, probably the age of two, going wild for "woof woof" his favorite toy. Woof Woof was a 1968 Fisher Price Beagle pull-along wooden dog that was placed under the tree. He loved this timeless dog, and we had it for years. My daughter, like her uncle, is completely dog crazy. When she was about six months old, I bought her a Follow Me Domino toy dog that barks and plays musical tunes when moving around the floor. She still screams with delight when this little pooch is in motion. Needless to say, this toy remains a huge hit and makes one terrific present for kids 6-24 months. The Sing Along CD Player is a popular item in my household when we host playdates. It's karaoke for toddlers—gotta love that! All three of my kids adore musical instruments—they make great gift choices, and I have a soft spot for giving them. My three-year-old just received this guitar. Never out of style and always a crowd-pleaser, you really can't go wrong with an activity cube. Toddlers love them. What toys do your kids go bonkers for? I'd love to hear them.

Rockin Rider Brown Pony

To get us in the mood for the holidays, over the next few weeks, our Project Nursery experts and contributors will be sharing favorite holiday gifts that either they received as a child or their children received. Join in on the conversation. What was your favorite gift?   Just like almost every little girl, I went through phases of toy obsession—baby dolls, barbies, but the one that stuck the longest was definitely horses. Every little girl loves horses, right? Dear Santa, what do we want for Christmas? A pony. What do I want at my birthday party? A pony. Yes, I'm from Texas, but it's not like we are born with cowgirl hats on and boots. (Or are we?) I remember begging my parents for a pony. BEGGING. I was sure it could just live in the backyard, in our small-suburbia backyard. We could tie it to the swing set, and I could ride it in circles in the cul-de-sac each day after school. Now as an adult, I think I'm going to blame my obsession on my mother. She rode horses as a young girl too, back in the day (like waaaaaaay back in the day, haha, sorry mom) when you were allowed to ride horses on the side of the road. Okay, that might just be a Texas thing. In any case, she introduced me to horseback riding at a very young age, and one spectacular Christmas, she surprised my sister and me with a horse, errr, pony …
