Ummm, hello, it's already November? I swear each year goes by faster than the last. It seems like just yesterday I wrote this post on family pictures for my Christmas cards last year, and now here I am again. This year is special because we have a new addition to our family, which also means making three kids look at the camera simultaneously (wish me luck). In the end, it's all worth it when my mailbox fills with printed cards from our friends and family. Nothing, and I mean nothing, puts me more in the holiday spirit. Okay, except for maybe a gingerbread latte from Starbucks. That runs a close second. Every year, I have that one friend who not only has the perfect family picture but also took the time to cleverly plan it. (You know which friend you are.) So I swear, this year, I'm going to start early and plan my perfect Christmas picture. Maybe I'll even steal a little inspiration from these talented (and super cute) families! This adorable family used letters as props. They could print the picture as is for the perfect card! I love the idea of showing everyone's personality in the cards. How fun would a photobooth style card be? Sometimes lighting is everything in a photograph. What a cool way to involve the kiddos and get great lighting! photo by Ron Putman I love the originality of this image! The possibilities are endless, but if you don't have an entire wall of …

It was Christmas in July when Project Nursery was invited to attend the fabulous Pottery Barn Kids Holiday Sneak Peek 2012 party. Yes, Christmas is less than ten weeks away, and it still feels like summer in most of the country. I've been in Los Angeles, Fort Worth and Charleston all in one week, and the temperature has been the same—80-85 during the day and 65 at night. Is fall ever coming? Regardless of the weather, the holidays are still upon us, and it is time to start thinking of those special gifts. I love these city block sculptures from Muji. Under $20 per city, they make great gifts for a friend who is a world traveler. They would look wonderful as a decorative item in a child's room. New York Paris Tokyo

Last year, my daughter and I began making Witch Friends, and it is becoming a fun tradition now. Our witch friends live in different rooms of the house through the fall season, and we love having them hang out with us. I hope you all will pick up this trend for the season and let it fly just like the Elf on the Shelf at Christmas! All you need are a few simple supplies. Materials: baby pumpkins, small terra cotta pots, spray paint, painters tape, scrapbook paper, glue gun, ric rac, pompoms, decorative fabric brads 1. First tape off your design on the terra cotta pots using painters tape. 2. Make sure the tape is smoothed down so there are no holes for the paint to seep into. 3. Spray your pot and let it dry (approximately 1 hour). 4. Peel off your painters tape once paint is completely dry and set your pots aside. Next, take your patterned scrapbook paper and cut out cone shapes. Wrap the ends and glue the seam. Glue the ric rac to the base of your cone. Glue the bottom of the top pumpkin to the other and stack them. Glue your pompom to the top of your hat. Place hot glue dots to the inside of the ric rac and glue on to top of top pumpkin. Voila! A cute little pumpkin hat. Now you need eyes for your witch. Push in your brads to create eyes and a nose. Lastly, place your …

You've waited so long to find out...is it a boy or a girl? Many parents decide to wait until the baby is born to find out, but for those who like to know in advance, how did you reveal your baby's gender with friends and family? How did you let your older child know if they'd be having a baby brother or a baby sister? Here are a few fun ways to reveal your baby's gender. A friend of mine recently sent this sequence of pictures to friends and family to share the news of her second child's gender. Her daughter got to discover the surprise as well. Boy, oh boy! Another Project Nursery reader shared her gender reveal story. They brought two loveys to the ultrasound room, a pink one and a blue one, along with a big envelope. They asked the technician to put whichever color symbolized the baby's gender in the envelope so they could have their older daughter open it up on Christmas morning. Under the Christmas tree, their two-year-old daughter discovered a pink lovey, which meant she'd be having a baby sister. What a great gift! Gender Reveal Parties are very popular right now. As we've seen in our own Project Gallery, couples are coming up with all sorts of cute ways to tell the world if it's a boy or a girl. Take, for instance, this Vintage-Inspired Gender Reveal Party, where guests were asked upon entry to either place a yellow bow in their …

When you are a new mom, there are so many emotions you go through, not to mention all the new things to remember. You definitely don't want to miss any milestones, and there seems to be a new one every time you turn around in the first year! So I have put together some of my favorite ideas to help you celebrate your baby and his/her accomplishments. Monthly pictures. This is one of the most popular ways to document your baby's growth. I love the personalized onesies I have seen, and there are a lot of other fun ideas to photograph your baby. Personally, I love the pictures of babies propped against a large stuffed animal to see how big they get in comparison each month. I did this with Lauren, and I still look at those pictures in wonder. A sweet love note. I love the idea of writing a little note each month that your little one can open when they are older. The opportunity to read their accomplishments and changes through the eyes of his/her mommy would be a very special gift. Take a handprint. This is not just for the Christmas tree anymore! Take your baby's handprint each month and put them side-by-side either on individual canvases or on one sheet next to each other. Once the year is over, frame it in a shadow box with other baby keepsakes for a beautiful, sentimental piece to hang on the wall. Canvas art prints by Becky Higgins Line them …

We love finding out what makes our favorite design mavens tick, and when we get a chance to pick their brains a bit, well it's like Christmas has come early. That's how we felt when Jennifer DeLonge was game to chat about her designs. Jennifer is, after all, the creative genius behind two collections for Franklin & Ben. It was such fun learning what inspired her to design these fresh and unique pieces, AND she gave us a little eye candy in the form of two gorgeous design boards centered around these two new collections. Meet Mason and Copley. What are you most inspired by? Objects that inspire me everyday always include vintage finds of textiles, furniture and jewelry. Looking to the past and finding ways to update and modernize my favorite patterns, shapes and functionality keeps me passionate about design. Traveling the world and photographing everything from over-scaled churches down to the details of a door handle allow me to catalog away inspiration. There is a never a shortage of ideas to explore! What was your inspiration for your two Franklin & Ben collections (Mason and Copley)? The Mason was inspired by the imagery of antique library walls, housed on a cobblestone street, where the paneling has the perfect amount of patina after years of use. The vintage look of the French grey finish gives it just the right amount of age and when paired with modern accessories, can create excitement in any nursery. The Copley inspiration comes from the …

Every year, my friend and her three small children (all under 7) huddle around the TV, noisemakers in hand, party hats on heads and watch the ball drop. Is she crazy? Yes, but in a fun way. The kids love the excitement of watching the ball drop as much as the big kids do, so every year their family tunes into CNN and celebrates the new year by watching the festivities—in London. The time difference means the kids can have a party at the very reasonable hour of 7 p.m. EST instead of midnight and still get into the holiday spirit. This is also great for moms and dads who may not be able to make it to midnight, either! A few fun things to make with the kids while you're waiting for the stroke of 7pm: Party hats. Grab some scrapbook paper, scissors, glitter and glue, and create your own fabulous way to get festive. Noisemakers. Fold paper plates in half, fill with dried beans and staple shut—don't forget to add shiny accents, ribbons and streamers to the outside. Cans with a few coins wrapped in pretty paper work well too. Time capsule. Write a few holiday memories on a piece of paper and place them in a special box to be put away and brought out with the Christmas decorations next year. This is a great way to stroll down memory lane every year. With that, you are sure to have a memorable New Year's with your children.
