One of my favorite phases of designing a room is the “accessorizing” phase. Once all the major furniture pieces are in place and the room color has been added, it is time to add the final touches. Adding wall art to any room not only adds interest and personality but gives a room dimension and scale. From one of a kind works, to selecting a theme or style of wall art… arranging and creating unique wall decor can be fun.
Vintage maps and other antique posters and elements are great for a more “well traveled” look for a room. Maps are often a great theme for the nursery or child’s room since they grow with your child. This theme works for any age and is often a great choice when wanting your room to always be up to date.
Unique elements such as adding three dimensional blocks to create a wall pattern, is a fun way to play up the nursery and add a one of a kind touch.
A favorite of many designers is adding a mural or special wall painting to the room. I often suggest that the theme be one that will still be fresh for years to come. Another tip is not being too literal with the theme. Subtle hints such as nature, geometry and simple stripes are great choices for painted wall decor.
Of course there is always my favorite addition to any room. One of a kind art is created by you or your child. Even something by grandma is a fantastic addition to any child’s room. There is nothing that can say more than a special homemade artwork from family.
I am also excited to let everyone know that as of July 2010, my new collection of wall art for Little House by Annette Tatum will be available at OopsyDaisy.com. I had so much fun creating this collection using some of the most popular prints as accents. Add another layer to your child’s room by adding color and pattern from several of our Little House prints.

The wall art looks great! I can’t wait to see the rest of the collection. I also love the pears hanging down on the tree mural, so cute and unexpected.
