Mom Style: The Trench Coat

The cherry blossoms are budding and soon spring showers will be upon us. The trench coat is the ideal outerwear essential for any mom. After a pregnancy or two, our bodies change, and if you once had an hourglass figure, you may find that your waistline has filled out a tad. While most outerwear hides our figures, a trench coat actually helps create the illusion of an hourglass shape, or enhance our figures even more, by giving greater waist definition. Here are some of my favorite trench coats at a variety of price points.

This double breasted French Connection trench coat is lightweight and made from a techno fabric that will protect you from light showers.

This Sam Edelman trench has a convenient side zipper for easy on-and-off access and is embellished with vegan leather trim.

For those who can splurge (or save for), this quintessential Burberry Brit trench coat is a timeless and classic piece. I love that you can literally make it small enough to pack into a handbag and have the option of wearing it as a raincoat too.

This Gap trench coat comes in both navy and oak and is made of 100% cotton. The price point is fantastic, and there is one for every shape and size—available in petite, regular and tall!

From a play date or a work meeting to dinner with friends, the versatile trench coat will allow you to transition your look over and over again. Dress your trench down with a pair of boyfriend jeans and cozy sweater for a casual and relaxed play date. Or wear it with a pair of black leggings and ballet flats to go to the movies or for a low-key work day. A trench coat paired with a dress and heel is sexy and stylish—try mixing your neutrals and wearing a peep toe bootie for a graphic and edgy look.

Work this iconic and essential piece into your closet for a classic, timeless and flattering look.

You have me dreaming of a new trench now! I love using a smart looking coat to hide a not so great outfit underneath, especially for our EARLY morning school bus drop offs. My favorite is the French Connection trench in navy. I'm always a sucker for gold buttons! Thanks!
