Creative Mobile Inspiration

Whenever I am doing a photo shoot I am always looking for creative elements that I can use over the crib or changing station. The space above the crib is especially nice for adding a touch of “one-of-a-kind” to the nursery. Many mobiles currently on the market are designed to “awaken” or stimulate a newborn, however it is nice to sometimes use that space for a touch of whimsy! I love coming up with unique ideas…some just happen to be more “out of the box” while others are handmade. Either way, it is a great place to incorporate an expression of you in the nursery. I challenge you to get creative with your mobile design to add another layer of style to the room. But always make sure what ever you hang above the crib or the changing station is secure and will not fall down into the crib or on baby.

These lightweight gauze lanterns (without the lamp) are lovely for a soft touch of the bohemian. I love these lanterns on Portabello Pixie and Lamps of India.

For the tiny traveler….I separated these globes from their original mobile to fill the space above. I love their old fashion vintage feel.

Then there is the handmade touch. Florals, branches, nests and other nature themes make some of the best mobile decor for above the crib. Fasten some to the wall or use a twig or branch to create your own look and feel.

These are straight from the garden and dried out. Love the upside down floral bouquet as a mobile. Very fresh and sweet for baby girl.

Butterflies are great too. I have often floated 3 strands above the crib… or even over the glider for quiet time. Babies love these and they are great for girls as they get older. Over a desk, in a window.. everyone loves butterflies.  I got mine from World Buyers Source.

I discovered this bird cage at Pier One Imports…Unexpected and delicate.

Using old bi-planes or other antique toys can be a fun way to create a hanging element in the room. Fasten with a fun ribbon for an added vintage feel. There are tons of aviation toys at Tailwinds.com.

Today, there our many choices to help you achieve a modern look in baby’s room. Here are some favorites from IGE.com… the birds always are a great idea and the punchy owl is a friendly face in the nursery. I also adore the Baby Jives shop of handmade mobiles from Etsy.

Enjoy adding a special touch to your child’s room with a mobile made of special elements that reflect your style. I hope you’ve enjoyed my picks!

Lovely suggestions, Annette! I am in love with the idea of having an old toy converted into a mobile of sorts. I still have my old dolls that I can use for this!

I adore those globes. Where can I find them or something similar for my baby boy’s travel/safari themed nursery?

Oh my, I think that these unique mobiles would occupy my time for a while :) Love the ideas here. I do have a question if using dried out flowers would be safe for babies?

Hi love all the different mobiles very creative are these Jenny lind style cribs making a come back? I found this blog out of nowhere but it’s a funny thing because I’m 8 months pregnant and have not bought a crib because I have bn craving this style crib and my hubby seems to disagree with the style. And yes I am having a girl I was thinking about pairing it with a modern dresser and a whimsy mobile. Help how can I convince him that it’s not outdated and that it will work.
