Corporate Creative Director by day and Crafty Do-It-Yourselfer by night. SF gal Natalie Hansen has a knack for interior design. Just check out her blog http://www.steamedartichokestudio.blogspot.com/. Project Nursery would like to give Natalie kudos for recently being featured on one of our very favorite blogs, Design*Sponge which showcases her fabulous $12 DIY lamp revamp. Our Project of the Week is Natalie's cool, calm baby nursery, otherwise know as the "Lombard Street Project". With a budget of $500, Natalie created a contemporary gender neutral baby nursery for her clients. Natalie painted the entire room a sea foam green (with low VOC) herself. She was inspired by IKEA for their amazing storage solutions and minimalistic style but also incorporated a personal touch with some crafty wall art. "I painted small cherry blossom style branches in two corners and one right above the door. I also hand drew a hippo and a giraffe on some of my favorite paper patterns from Paper Source and glued these figures to the wall. (They come off easily and won't leave a mark on the wall). " Our favorite feature is the stuffed animal art. A 49 cent stuffed animal and $6 shadow box frame - IKEA of course! A brilliant, inexpensive idea for nurseries everywhere...Very cool Natalie!

Exhausted, I just finished cleaning up my son's toys after a busy day of playing. I should also mention that I am jet lagged and survived a 6 hour flight where my little angel cried for 5 of the 6 hours on a late, late night cross country flight. Yes, I was that parent with that kid on the plane. I apologize to anyone who flew Delta flight #611 from JFK to LAX. Thank god for those gracious flight attendants who allowed us to sit in their jump seats in the back during the entire flight - a drastic measure to muffle the ear piercing screams. Anyway, I regress. Austin's grandparents asked me a few months back what he needed for his 1st birthday. I said anything but small blocks. I couldn't cope with cleaning up more blocks and small bits. Go figure Austin received a beautiful wooden train with 25 wooden parts and a set of his very first Legos; another 45 pieces. I've come to the realization that good times are in store. I now watch his face light up as he clicks the parts together and think how it's soooo worth it. I also vividly remember my little brother and his enormous Lego mess. I predict that will be my son in just a few years time so here's the solution to future late night Lego clean up... We are excited to present a first of many future giveaways to our Project Nursery readers. Introducing an ingenious …

Last week Oprah put families to the test and asked them give up everything they could live without in an effort to waste less. Yesterday afternoon, New Yorkers celebrated Earth Day in Central Park with music, games and fun for the whole family. So what are you doing to teach your kids to be "Green"? Like me, there's probably a lot more you could be doing. Besides carrying the stylish Whole Foods "Better Bag" tote to and from the grocery store, I could start to think about those big ticket items, like furniture. What better place to influence your young by starting in their very own room? And no, the furniture doesn't have to be made of cardboard as featured in my previous recycling post. Save a tree or save one of these stunning eco-conscience nursery designs in your idea book by Storm Interiors, our featured Project of the Week. Going green starts young these days and designers are taking notice. Los Angeles based, Storm Interiors cater to the eco-conscience in-crowd by providing top notch design services and custom furniture options. Here are just some of their pieces to satisfy your need for green: Storm Re-Rugs™: These unique, recycled rugs are made from manufacturer’s un-used carpet remnants, utilizing durable but plush fabrications and designed with special motifs. I once knew a mom who hid her “Nanny cam” within her child’s oversized humidifier. Not a bad idea? I often wonder if she ever got caught. Initially, I didn't bother to purchase a humidifier because I wasn't sure if I really needed one. The air wasn’t dry where I lived. Besides, all humidifiers are bulky and unattractive, right? However, once my son’s first cold blew in, I looked at his red, stuffy, little nose and kicked myself for not having one handy. They apparently now come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Check out the ultra-chic humidifier by PlusMinusZero above. A Japanese design house known as ±0; with the intent to turn everyday objects into art. Purchase it through Dynamism.com for guaranteed reliability and service. I personally own the sleek, futuristic "Compact Ultrasonic Humidifier with Programmable Timer" from Sharper Image thanks to my mom. It’s perfect for a small, contemporary nursery and it gets the job done. Oh, and it's on sale now for $29.99 from $59.99! Did you notice the friendly frog humidifier featured in Pip’s room from “Project of the Week: Playful Pip"? It’s also received some wonderful reviews. Shop baby-wise.com for the largest selection of kiddie humidifiers from "Crane Adorable Humidifiers". Ranging from frogs to puppy dogs, baby-wise will ship today and provide from what I can tell, the lowest prices out there.

Wooden Giant Heart Letters In Georgia Font

There is no doubt that using wall letters to display your new baby's name in the nursery somehow feels right. You've waited 9 months for this little person to arrive and it's a bit therapeutic to announce the name to the world by plastering it up on the nursery wall. I am guilty of falling prey to this nursery design trend with both my children. At the time it was a real challenge to find letters with cleaner lines and cooler color choices then the plain old white and whimsical stuff you see at every kid store out there. The times are-a-changin'... These sleek lowercase stainless letters from Pure Modern would look especially cool leaning on a bookshelf as a single or three inital monogram representing baby's name. If you want that soft, sweet look I like the crisp white and simple design by Heart to Heart. And lastly I couldn't resist following up last weeks Project of the Week where we featured Barby's innovative idea to use numbers instead of letters to honor her babe Viv. These orange industrial stencil numbers from DWR would be especially hip for the birthday number shout out.

Thank you all for your overwhelming support since our launch! I have received a ton of questions about my mysterious nursery that helped inspire our blog. So here it is, "Modern Baby Blue"... Hope I didn't disappoint. It's not exactly modern but rather an updated look for a powder blue, baby boy theme. The paint is my favorite blue, "Lake Placid" and the white is fool proof, "Decorators White", from Benjamin Moore. You also can't beat free shipping from Land of Nod for my son's crib and dresser. The fluffy lamb skin rug was ordered direct from New Zeland's Eco Wool, ideal for "tummy time". (Note: the room isn't even done just yet. Stay tuned as we are putting hardware floors, pendant lighting, base boards, new shade, etc.) While it is our mission to inspire you, you have already inspired us to feature a "Project of the Week". We understand that decorating is very personal. You can’t help but feel proud as a result of all the time and energy you put into your child's room. Share these rooms, amazing finds and your DIY tips with us on our gallery. It's also okay if the room isn't just perfect yet. Ask us for advice and we'll post our suggestions or ask our subscribers to respond with comments. We're looking forward to it!

Welcome to my first attempt at a blog. Here goes...I spent my 20's working in corporate America. I thought I was doing what I loved. Looking back, I did love it but in the back of my mind, I always wondered what would be next. Ten plus years later, my world changed for the better when my little one arrived. I am sure all you new moms out there would say the very same. I stopped working because my husband's job moved us across the country. Determined to continue my career as a hospitality executive on the west coast, "Mommyhood" set in. With it came a whole new world, a whole new set of responsibilities, and various interests emerged - ones that I never knew I had. Suddenly home bound in a new city for three naps a day (my son's of course) I started to look at my surroundings. I was now a "Director of the Home". I initially thought, "How incredibly lame?!" My magazine subscriptions transitioned from Instyle, Travel & Leisure and Vogue to Domino, Elle Decor and Cookie! Ok, and the occassional US Weekly/In Touch. Afterall, I have to keep current with celeb moms and their babies. The internet became an awesome resource. I started online shopping for everything and I mean EVERYTHING that I found in the magazines! Decorating my nursery was just the beginning. Truthfully, it was a long journey. Between 8 shades of blue, 5 shades of white, I finally found the perfect …
