While thinking about design, our first thoughts traditionally lean towards those things that are tangible like furniture or textiles. However, for me, the holiday season has always been about that cozy feeling we get in the glow of Christmas lights, amidst the glimmer of tinsel. Nothing brings that "feeling" like a good soundtrack of holiday music, and with apps like Spotify and Pandora, we all have a world of music literally at our fingertips. While I love a classic, I also am an early adopter of new classics. Below is a short list of holiday releases that have become classics in my home. Some I chose are jolly, and some lean toward the ethereal. Any way you spin it, these tracks will add a beautiful layer of sound to your celebration. You are sure to recognize the voice of Tracey Thorn, one half of the English duo "Everything but the Girl." Tracey has since done some gorgeous solo work, and this 2012 Christmas release is no exception. Her recording of Joy is charming and instantly evokes a warm nostalgic feeling. Aimee Mann is a longtime favorite of mine. Aimee's solo music is thoughtful, poignant and smart, and her holiday album is no different. Covering classics such as "Winter Wonderland," "I'll Be Home for Christmas" and original track "One More Drifter in the Snow," her voice is clear and pretty, and this album is on repeat in my studio all season. Let's pick up the beat a little with the brand …

We all want to make this time of year special and unique for our families. One of the easiest ways to do this is to make your own holiday decorations, like personalized Christmas stockings. I cannot sew worth the life of me, so I came up with a way to make stockings for my family without having to thread a needle! Supplies: fabric, large sheet of colored paper (our size was 12x18), Stitch Witchery (found at Michaels), straight pins, scissors, iron, hot glue, ribbons, embellishments and applique flowers (found at local craft stores) 1. Draw a stocking on your large colored paper. 2. Cut out your shape. 3. Pin your stocking shape to your fabric. 4. Cut out the shape leaving a 1/4" to 1/2" border. You don't have to be exact. 5. This is what your stocking shape should look like. Cut out a second shape using the backside of your template and following steps 3 and 4 again. 6. Lay the two pieces on top of each other so the "correct" side of the fabric is in the inside. Layer the Stitch Witchery along the edges in between the matched up sides. 7. Apply iron as per instructions on Stitch Witchery box. 8. Turn stocking right side out. 9. Apply trims and flowers as desired. You're done! This year I am using the same base fabric for everyone but changing up the trim per person. You can even take it a step further and cut out felt initials …

As images of Christmas trees, logs on the fire and all things wood, warm and wintry surround us at this festive time of year, we find ourselves thinking about ways to bring nature's warm and natural palette into rooms. Here are a few of our favorite nature-minded finds. This gorgeous dresser from Iannone Design is a unique, eco-friendly piece. It combines natural materials and modern design. Sweet, romantic and a bit retro, this wall decal is ideal for any kid who would enjoy the company of little deer, squirrels and bunnies. Dwell Studio bedding is one of our favorite brands for its quality and design. This owls set is perfect for a little one who likes napping in the "woods." This tree shrub floor lamp from Vibia is absolutely fantastic. It is chic and quite powerful as well. Though originally intended for outdoor spaces, it can make a big difference in a dark room. The Birds on Tree Shadows wall clock is handmade. It is simple, elegant and would add a special touch to your nursery. Last, but not least, this fun finger puppets wall hanging made of organic cotton and felt can dress any wall. We suggest hanging it over a changing table so your child can be entertained with puppets while you change her. You can even have it personalized if you want.

A few weeks ago, I wrote about some fun Christmas Card ideas, and I fell in love with one in particular! Our cards have always been more formal—with a traditional family picture and closeups of the kiddos. This year I wanted to mix it up a bit and make our card more fun and playful. After all, 2012 was that kind of year! So, with a quick trip to my local craft store, I picked up some glitter scrapbook papers and thin sticks to create my own Santa's photobooth styled pictures! I wanted the "props" for our photobooth to be holiday themed and more importantly, be things the kids would enjoy! (Rudolph was a no brainer!) I traced out the hats, Santa's beard and a few red noses. I glued them together and attached the sticks to the back (so the kids could hold them up to their faces). I even made mini reindeer antlers and a Santa hat for my newborn. I found a white wall in our home and had the kids sit on the floor so they were about the same height. We took a ton of fun pictures—both smiling and silly! Turns out, the silly ones were some of my favorites! It was so easy! The kids are still playing with their holiday props, and I'm more than happy with our DIY Christmas cards! If you are nervous about making the props yourself, don't stress, there are tons of options online too! Here are some of my favorites. Here's …
