Soft mocha walls and pale pink accents make for a calming, zen palette. Toss in some crisp white furniture to keep things modern and you have this gorgeous, Japanese inspired nursery. A big congratulations goes out to new mother Jennifer. She not only delivered a beautiful baby girl (January 10th!) but also created a divine nursery just in time for her baby girl’s arrival. The challenge was to convert her beloved guest room (we feel the pain) into a relaxing yet space savvy nursery for her new little baby. Jennifer must be a very organized mother because she even had time to fill Project Nursery in on her inspirations and sources for this unique and personal nursery. Thank you Jennifer!
1. What was your inspiration for the room?
My inspiration was nature inspired zen modern – basically pulled everything l like into one room. I like the look of the modern Oeuf and Dwell nurseries, but didn’t want to spend thousands of dollars on furniture that I will only use for a few years. I tried to imitate the modern look on a budget and pull in a few splurges on things I can reuse after the nursery days are over (like the chandelier and the rocker.) I went economical on items that my baby will outgrow in a few years, like the changing table ($70) and the crib ($300).

Nature inspired, old and new Japanese design, mid century modern, organic
3. Share with us choice of colors, DIY tips, etc.
I used dark brown, white, grey, and diluted pinks for colors. I wanted to incorporate a little feminine “glam” so I used mirrored tables & light switch, plus a mini Schonbeck chandelier.
4. Where did you purchase your furniture?
Crib bedding is NurseryWorks, Rocking chair is Eames rocker by Herman Miller, Daybed is Ikea, Daybed organic bedding is Unison, Mirrored side table is from Target, Round side table is from West Elm, Changing Table is LA Baby, Bird mobile is by Helene Ige, Crib is BabyMiro Mercer, Chandelier is Schonbeck, Rug is Ikea, Table lamp is Target, Changing pad cover is by Gus & Max, Wall mirror is from West Elm, Wall art from Ikea, Hardware from Anthropologie.
5. What is your favorite item in the room?
The daybed because I sleep in it every night!

Hi! Thanks for the nice compliments. Sorry for the late response to your questions…I have been busy with my newborn.
The wall color is by Behr – it’s called “Flower Wood”. The tree on the wall is actually a stick on decal – from Ikea (if you can believe it!). It doesn’t stick well, so I used some adhesive to make it adhere better. Unfortunately, the closet doors are no longer sold at Home Depot – I had a few friends who really wanted them and I searched and searched for them – no luck – I can’t find them anywhere.
The nursery has turned out to be quite efficient – with lots of storage for a million baby things. I use the changing table a lot – even for the baby massages – so don’t think you don’t need one – like I first thought!

i wanted to write because the crib you have is the same one that’s on the top of my list!
i just wanted to see how you like it (i have only seen it online – not in person) and to see if it fits a standard size mattress… seems like a silly question, i know, but i’ve read some reviews of other cribs and was really surprised to hear some people complain that the crib they bought didn’t fit a standard crib mattress!

Hi Jenn. Can you tell me what your crib bedding is called…where to get it. I’ve been searching and searching for bedding in these colors and everything is either fushia pink or too toile and floral. I think I found this in blue, but can’t find the pink.

Sara – thank you! To answer your question, I bought the Naturepedic organic mattress and it fit perfectly. I saw this mattress next to other and it looks like a standard size. I also bought it online for $399 (no tax, free shipping). The crib was delivered broken, but they sent me replacement parts and it is fine now. It is a heavy, good quality crib. One thing to note – I bought a mobile that clips onto cribs and it didn’t fit because this crib’s railings are thicker than standard cribs.

Have no idea if you’re still checking this, Jenn, but if so:
1. Did you add all of those ties, or did they come with the bedding?
2. Is the bedding truly pink? The advertisement says Peaberry Mocha. I was hoping to emphasize the browns to make it appear more tan (if we have a boy) and play up the pink (if we have a girl). Do you think it’s that versatile? Or girl only? We aren’t finding out, and I’m thinking about ordering this bedding.

I love your nursery! We’re thinking about getting the same Ikea daybed for our guest room. I was just wondering if you got yours with the mattress in the trundle and if so, if it’s possible to have two guests sleep on it vertically (with their heads on the day bed part, feet down by the trundle part – if that makes any sense?). We’re just wondering if it can be used like a normal double bed, or if each person would have to sleep on each twin mattress (with one being a bit ‘trapped’ through the night).

Hi – Peaberry mocha is more of a peach color. It is not gender neutral – looks girly in person. The ties came with the bedding.
I haven’t tried to sleep two people on the daybed, so not sure. But it sounds like a good idea to position the guests vertically instead of horizontal. I’ll try.
