Give Baby’s Sweet Potato Puree an Extra Healthy Boost

Sweet potato mixed with lentil and pear is such a great meal for your stage two eater. It’s easy to prepare, yummy and loaded with nutrients. This recipe yields a lot, making it the perfect choice if you want to freeze some for later. Preparing your baby food in bulk is such a huge time saver!

This stage two baby food recipe is suitable for babies 7-9 months and up. Always make sure the consistency of your baby’s food is one he can handle. Before combining foods, make sure your baby has tried each one individually first with no reaction to it.

Sweet Potato, Lentil and Pear Baby Food Recipe

Sweet Potato, Lentil and Pear Puree
(makes about 18 oz.)
Note: Use organic ingredients whenever possible.
1 sweet potato—washed, chopped and peeled
1 cup of water
1/2 cup of green, red or yellow lentils—rinsed
2 pears—washed, peeled and chopped. Bartlett pears are my favorite, but any variety will work.

Pour 1 cup of water into a small saucepan and bring to a boil over high heat. Add the lentils and let boil for one minute. Reduce the heat to low and cover. Let simmer for about 45 minutes, until all of the water is absorbed and the lentils are completely soft. Add more water if needed.

While the lentils are cooking, pour water into a medium/large pot until it is about 2 inches deep. Bring to a boil over high heat. Place the sweet potato into a steamer basket, and put the basket into the pot. Cover and let steam for 12-15 minutes, until the sweet potato is cooked all the way through and soft when pierced with a fork.

Put the pear, lentils and sweet potato into a food processor or blender, and pulse until a mushy mash consistency is achieved (mushy mash is a little thicker and lumpier than a smooth and creamy stage one meal). Just make sure the lumps are soft.

Sweet potato, lentil and pear puree will stay fresh in an airtight container for up to three days in the fridge and up to three months in the freezer. Enjoy!

Great recipe! I believe this recipe will help baby’s digestion. I remember my son’s Pediatrician, he said every fruit starts with a “P” will help them poop. Sweet potato and pear are the great combitation!!
