My very, very good friend Meg is finally (finally!) expecting her second child. I love her to death, but I was told in no uncertain terms that if I was going to throw her a baby shower, I’d have to skip the pink and blue elephants and any other froufrou things that might be going through my mind. Good thing I’m flexible and don’t mind a challenge!
When I plan a party for someone close to me, I always take the personality of the guest of honor into consideration to design something she’ll love—it’s her party after all! For Meg, nothing fit her better than a Coffee, Cravings and Cabernet baby shower (the Cabernet was for the rest of us to toast to the soon-to-be baby).
This was a very small party, so I didn’t go overboard with desserts and food, but I did try to include a few things that the honored mama loves. A coffee bar was a must along with a few things she may have been craving a little bit—carrot cake, doughnuts and oreos! Stacking up the doughnuts and oreos in cake shapes on cake stands made them presentable for the coffee bar.
I must give a big shout out to my husband for creating the giant chalkboard out of plywood and fencing planks the day before the shower!
Handmade crepe paper poppies decorated the table where we sat to chat—they played off the neutrals in the room beautifully.
There was more food stashed away in the kitchen, mostly of the finger food variety. Because it was a mid-afternoon party, we didn’t have to serve a meal, but we wanted something to pair with beverages.
Each guest was sent home with a custom coffee mug. My friend is a bit witty, so we opted for mugs with a few wry coffee quotes.
This coffee and cravings baby shower was wonderfully fun, the guests stayed well past the party end time and the mama-to-be was beaming the entire time!

This is too cute Paula! Seriously, love everything about this creative and fun shower. Maybe its because I love coffee almost more then i love babies. joking! Hope Meg had a blast.

I absolutely LOVE all of these ideas! I want to give my daughter a “sprinkle” for her new baby (after having twins) and she loves coffee (decaf right now, of course). I love this theme, it’s perfect. And love the Cabernet for me! :)
