Color Trends in Girls’ Rooms

Following up on our recent post about gender-neutral nursery color schemes, we’re looking at the latest color trends in girls’ rooms and nurseries. We’ve designed nurseries in just about every color scheme imaginable including the always gorgeous pink, gold and ivory palette, bold and bright neon colors and pretty much everything in between. However, our favorite new trend is a globally inspired and brightly colored palette that draws inspiration from world markets, ethnic patterns and the earth itself.

Globally Inspired Color Scheme for Girls' Rooms

There are so many things to love about this color scheme. It has major long-term, grow-with-me potential, it can lean anywhere from ultra-feminine to more neutral, and it’s versatile enough to work in just about any home. Regardless of the direction that feels right to you, we always recommend starting with a great foundation like a rug and then building from there.

We have a special love for the color pink, like the hot pink in this color scheme. But regardless of your color preferences and your individual design taste, you can easily bend this palette to your will, especially when it comes to fabrics. There are so many gorgeous, feminine fabrics in this color palette that we don’t know which one to love the most!

Globally Inspired Textiles for Girls' Rooms

Wondering what to do with the abundance of great textile options? How about some one-of-a-kind window treatments like the adorable roman shades in this eclectic nursery?

Maybe some statement bedding is more your style, like this traditional Indian kantha.

Fun accents with worldly inspiration are always going to be a great fit in this color palette. Whether you are sourcing pieces from your local import store or the world wide web, there are so many amazing options. We dream of brightly upholstered chairs, crazy floor poufs and whimsical lighting options like this one.

From bohemian to modern, there are tons of great furniture options in the globally-inspired color scheme—we love pieces like this bold, hot pink side table. It’s oozing with color, beautifully designed and crafted to last for years to come. This is the perfect addition to a nursery, and it will easily transition when the space becomes a big girl’s room down the road.

Of course, if you have any special pieces from your world travels, placing them in the nursery would be a meaningful and totally design appropriate way to incorporate them into your home. If you don’t have anything along those lines, maybe it’s time to hop on a plane (or just take a nice, long tour of design inspiration in the Project Nursery gallery).

My daughter is looking to design her nursery in colors of emerald green and magenta, any ideas?

Hello! I would suggest choosing 1 of those colors as the main accent, and use the other just as little pops. For example, a green accent wall with a few magenta pillows and accessories. Make sure to mix in a few other neutrals as well for a balanced look!
