My kids love puzzles, and I love puzzles. I think they are one of the best developmental toys for the toddler set. The only problem? Without a creative puzzle storage solution, messes are bound to happen. I’m all for cubbies and bins, but puzzles have no business hanging out in a bin. I seriously hate seeing puzzles and pieces all jumbled together; am I alone in this? I feel like kids are a lot less likely to want to play with their puzzles when they have to hunt for the correct pieces.
I first sought out puzzle storage solutions when my oldest was a toddler, and I discovered these puzzle racks, which work great for chunky piece puzzles and simple jigsaws. They will also hold one or two of the large handled peg puzzles. This puzzle rack is great because it holds two different widths.
These wooden little kid puzzles tend to come in pretty standard sizes, so many different brands will fit in this rack. I would recommend that you tuck this puzzle rack into a shelf because of the exposed edges. Mine fits nicely in our built-in bookshelf.
Or you can upgrade to this standalone puzzle case, which is a little bit more expensive. There’s a natural color option too. Note that this case has only one width choice.
Now here’s my tip for storing puzzles to save for future children when your little one outgrows the easier puzzles. Use some packing wrap to secure those pesky pieces to the board because no matter how neatly you store them away, you know those pieces have a way of sliding out. And there is nothing worse than a puzzle missing a piece. Okay, maybe there is, but you know what I mean.
Happy puzzling!
