Our Real Rooms, showcasing rooms submitted to us by Project Nursery readers, is fast gaining popularity and we absolutely love it! Thanks to all of you who have sent in room submissions. If you have a great nursery or kid’s room you would like us to feature, please visit our Submit page. Here is another unique and creative room by Los Angeles based reader Lacey. After two years with a baby pink nursery Lacey decided to give her now toddler’s room a chic update. Lacey’s fearless use of bold patterns and bright color should be applauded. I absolutely love the retro fuchsia headboard and vintage pink lantern. Mix a little Palm Beach with a dash of eclectic charm and you have this stylish modern room for Lacey’s two year old daughter Charlie. Here’s how she did it:
PN: What was your inspiration for the room?
Lacey: When my daughter was born I knew I wanted her to have a pink room, by the time she turned two I was sick of looking at all the pink and decided to give her room a makeover. She loves flowers and butterflies so I decided I would use that as a jumping off point and I knew I still wanted to keep some pink because that had become her favorite color. I also knew that I wanted to incorporate some of her existing furniture to cut costs.
PN: What best describes your decorating style?
Lacey: I would categorize my decorating style as colorful chic. I like to use a lot of color while still keeping it tasteful and chic. Shabby chic would be the exact opposite of what I like.
PN: Can you share with us any of the paint colors, furniture, DIY tips, art work etc. you used when creating the room?
Lacey: The Chocolate color on the wall is by Benjamin-Moore, it is called mocha brown. The canvas with the circus ballerina was painted by the woman who painted the flowers on the wall, her name is Tasha Loudon and her website is called www.artbytasha.com. She is based in San Diego, but drove to my house in Los Angeles. The letters are zinc, they came in a silver color but I spray painted them to match the room. I picked those up at Anthropologie. The green paper mache snail came from their as well. The Birdcage Light fixture is vintage, I found it online and painted it pink. The glider I got custom made at Beach Bungalow Designs in San Diego, as well as the pillows on the bed and the faux croc upholstered head board. Tritia, the owner, has made all the bedding for my kids nurseries, and she is amazing. The duvet cover is from Pottery Barn Kids and the curtains I had custom made here in Los angeles.
PN: What is your favorite item(s) in the room?
Lacey: There is a tie for my favorite item in the room. One is the faux croc head board and the other is the bird cage light.
