Lately I have been very drawn to bold patterns in the nursery. Incorporating them in the right way can make a dramatic statement with a real designer feel. Here are some of my favorite patterns for 2012.
Chevron fabrics are so hot right now. I had one of our Bellini artists paint these fabulous table and chair sets using bold colors and metallic paints for our holiday window. They would be awesome in a kitchen or even a playroom or bedroom and can be customized to fit your color scheme.
Ikat is another bohemian-inspired print that looks super in a nursery. My fellow Project Nursery contributor Annette Tatum uses it beautifully in one of her latest bedding collections. Her choice of bright, rich colors makes the pattern jump off the fabric with excitement.
Bold diamonds, like this Serena & Lily quilt, are a new spin on a classic design. Enlarging the pattern with a white diamond is very chic and works well with paler colors shown here or darker colors like navy. I even love it for an accent wall.

Damask was definitely one of the hottest patterns this year, and I don’t see this pattern bowing out quickly. Although I like it on fabric, I love it even more on wallpaper. I love how they used it in the room below; the hot pink against the white furniture becomes the focus of the room. It’s so vibrant and fresh.

My colleague, Aaron Christensen and I recently wrote a blog post for our new company, “The Princess and the Prop Maker” about Chevrons and gathered all sorts of nursery goodies featuring this hot pattern! It’s a great pattern because it can be dressed up without being too stuffy or serious. And I love the new ikat pattern by Annette Tatum…she’s always offering such beautiful products. Great post!

Love patterns that are ornate, too, like damask, but I find it hard to use them on walls because I am always afraid they’d take the focus away from the little details. I think patterns on walls are only great if you have minimalist furniture and decorative accents.
