A Cactus Themed Nursery Inspired by Arizona!

We love nurseries that have a special story behind them and today’s nursery tour features a cactus themed nursery that was inspired by the couple’s love of Arizona! What’s better than creating a nursery based on important memories for you and your partner. Mom Alison Palecek designed this space for her little boy Roman with loads of love, and I’m sure he—and she!—can feel that every time they enter the space. Thank you, Alison, for sharing with us! We’ll let you take it from here.

I am a stay-at-home boy mom, social media influencer and commercial model. I live in Wake Forest, NC with my husband and our son, Roman. I love everything home, travel, food, and I’m sharing everything I love along the way!

Where did you pull inspiration for your nursery design?
My husband and I took our first big trip together to Scottsdale, AZ. We later got engaged in Scottsdale, married in Sedona, and honeymooned in Scottsdale! We love everything about the desert so when we were thinking of nursery themes, there wasn’t even a question that we were going to do a cactus and desert theme nursery.

It also helped that the theme was gender neutral because the gender was a surprise to everyone, including us! When we moved, we added to the nursery decor and incorporated some blue, since we ended up having a boy.

Fun Fact: You’ll see Roman’s neon sign in his nursery is his first and middle name. His middle name is Scott, inspired by our love for Scottsdale! Scottsdale was also Roman’s first trip on an airplane at three months old. Full circle, AZ has our hearts!

What part of the design process did you enjoy the most?
Picking the right furniture at the very beginning was fun, and I feel like that kind of set the tone for the nursery. Now that we’ve moved, the small details have been really fun and make such a big difference!

What is your favorite part or detail in your nursery?
I love the neon sign! It really encompasses so much of who we are as a family and our style. I couldn’t wait to find out what we were going to name the baby so I could order and hang it in the nursery! I also love all of the decals—they’re so fun and so much less daunting than painting.

What is one thing that you would tell other parents to consider when starting their own nursery design project?
Pick a theme that YOU love! Your baby won’t know the difference, and you can really be passionate about what goes into it!
