Today we are chatting with our old friend (and former Project Nursery team member!), Meghan Basinger! An interior designer and lifestyle blogger, Meghan has transitioned her love of wallpaper, oversized wall décor and all things black and white into a career designing spaces for clients. Just in case you aren’t already following her on instagram, you should start now. She has just the right mix of inspiring design and telling-it-like-it-is about life as a mom to her two cuties—Bauer and Kingsley. We’ve peeked into both girls’ nurseries already (click their names to see them), and now we are touring their shared space (well, Kingsley hasn’t moved in quite yet!). It’ll be just right for two sisters and perfect for sharing secrets, joys and games. Thank you, Meghan, for sharing with us!

Where did you pull inspiration for your design?
I knew I wanted to create a shared space. Our girls are close in age and I want them to spend their younger years falling asleep in the same room. Much of our home is black, white and all things neutral, but for this space I wanted to create a girly and whimsical room they could play make-believe.
What part of the design process did you enjoy the most?
I loved picking out the prints for over their beds. Bauer is obsessed with all things horses since moving to the country. The chubby little bunny cheeks remind me of Kingsley and when she graduates from her nursery I know she’ll love dreaming below the adorable artwork!

What is your favorite part or detail in the room?
Their name canvases. I love the girls’ names—they are unique, and I know these canvases will stay in their rooms for years to come.
Shelves | Custom Silhouette Frame | Swan Wall Decor
What is one thing that you would tell other parents to consider when starting their own big kid room design project?
Just because they’ve outgrown the nursery doesn’t mean you’ve got a full-blown teenager. Create an age-appropriate space that inspires. And think through safety! As much as I love their name canvases, I purposely kept those away from over their beds. Same goes for the shelving. We wanted to create a beautiful room, but it also has to be one that allows us to rest easy at night knowing our three-year-old is a free woman in there.
