From a Baby Boy’s Nursery to a Timeless Toddler Room

When we found out we were expecting a little girl, we immediately started planning on transitioning our two-year-old from his crib and nursery to a toddler room. We wanted something timeless—something that would grow with him through the years, something that made him feel special.

We kept a few elements from his nursery, like his pom-pom garland and his vintage dresser to make the space still feel familiar. The rest of the design was inspired by the pattern on a shower curtain we came across. It became the perfect statement piece to use as we reupholstered an old DIY headboard.

One of my favorite things about children’s spaces is the fun that comes along with accessorizing them. Items like toys, clothing, and even books often make the best accessories. From Brody’s rain boots to his favorite nighttime stories, they’re all on display in his room and they will be easy to swap with other accessories as he grows.

Remember the saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover”? Well, when it comes to bookshelves in nurseries, I toss that phrase by the wayside. My mom (who is a second grade teacher) is probably cringing at this admission, but beautiful book covers are almost art-like when displayed. […]
