Every year the color experts over at Pantone release their pick for the Color of the Year. In the past few years we’ve seen the likes of Tangerine Tango and Emerald Green, so it only makes sense that they complete the trio of secondary colors with Radiant Orchid, their selection for 2014.
We’re no strangers to this rich shade of plum, having used it in our designs in the past. In this nursery, we paired the pretty purple shade with neutral taupe and orchid details.

Perhaps one of the best things about shades of purple is that they can read very differently depending on how the rest of a design evolves. They can feel regal and royal, whimsical and quirky or even bohemian, making purple a very versatile color choice for a nursery or child’s room. The area rug in this adorable newborn shot almost seems to blur the line between all three!

When paired with shades of pink, blue and green, plum helps to give this lovely crib bedding set a fun and happy feel.

For a sweet bohemian or vintage feel, include a set of faded purple books in the space for the perfect accent. A simple photograph of books is another way to achieve the same look.

Pantone always has the best eye for color, and we can’t wait to see Radiant Orchid popping up all over the design world in 2014.
