This Summer, Little Crown Interiors was hard at work creating nurseries and kid’s rooms. Today, we’re bringing a first look of a new boy’s nursery design to Project Nursery! We recently completed this Rock and Roll themed boy’s nursery for a family in Los Angeles with a 1 year old boy. They wanted to make his room really special and new, while keeping on budget, and using some of their existing items. Check out this video to see what our little Rock and Roller had to say about his new room:
So – here’s how we created the highly customized Rock and Roll theme without breaking the bank…
The furniture (glider, convertible crib and changer) were already in place when we started the project, and client J. wanted to go for a red, black and gray nursery (a nod to her husband’s favorite colors, and an excellent choice for the Rock and Roll theme).
This room started with navy walls, and took several coats to get the perfect shade of gray. When covering dark paint, be prepared to roll on several coats. While a coat of primer can help, it can’t always do the whole job.
Next up, the fun stuff! We helped J. find the perfect rug – “The Beat” – and paired it with a room full of colorful, music-themed items. One of our favorite elements in the room is the shelving over the toy box. We designed the area to resemble the neck of a guitar, while providing a fun place for special things.
We placed black, silhouette style wall decals over the crib, and on the wall near the glider. These fun wall decals from Room Mates are actually a chalkboard material (chalk carefully hidden until Landon gets a little older). We couldn’t help ourselves from borrowing Landon’s adorable monkey Zoo Pack by Skip Hop to accent our photos!
This room features custom textiles (bumper-free bedding, window valences, toy box cushion, changing pad cover and glider pillow). We believe that custom items really make a room special – which is also why we chose the adorable customized Lex Modern artwork over the glider.
Of course, every nursery needs to be functional, as well as cute, which is why the Munchkin Diaper Pail is great! As we were putting the finishing touches on the room, our client J. came in with several additional pieces of artwork – special family heirlooms. We loved the chance to place the special items in the nursery – they will always help this family remember what’s important (special note: most of these special items were removed during photography, as they showed the child’s full name).
Room complete, photos taken, and hugs given, we headed out from this Rock and Roll nursery – on our way to the next project (which you’ll be seeing soon!).

It’s the first time I came across a rock-and-roll theme. Unique I say. I hope that little boy lives up to his room’s theme and become a rocker someday!
