A Little Birdie Told Me

Some nights the kitchen is my enemy. It’s not the actual preparation of a nutritious and delicious meal that gets me down. It’s the thought of sweeping and plucking up bits of food from the kitchen floor for the third time in one day that sends me over the edge. We are eating out tonight, I declare! But wait, is eating out with two toddlers really a night off? This will require “inside voices”, bottoms to stay on designated chairs and massive amounts of patience from the wee ones. Looks like I’ll be eating my meal in three bites and 30 seconds flat and call it a night. Busy mom of three, Grace Paik was so fed up with these types of eating out experiences she created The ChalkMat. Part placemat, part chalkboard, The ChalkMat is the perfect way to engage and distract your kids while eating in or out..

As part of Grace’s company Sam and Bellie, she created this affordable and eco-conscious line of eating products she named Jaq Jaq Bird which means “chirp chirp bird” in Korean and happens to be the nick name of her 3rd child. These products are completely PVC, BPA and phthalate free. The line, which can be easily folded and carried on-the-go, also includes bibs (with a smart pocket), aprons, and activity splat mats. You can use chalk or crayons on The ChalkMat. By George, it might just save me some sanity and let me finish a meal. Yes!

Although the designs on the front of the mat are very cute….so not necessary :)
The idea of the chalkboard side of the mat is ingenious and love it! Who couldn’t use a distraction for the kids while preparing dinner (often feel guilty on those days I resort to the television). These mats are terrific!

How cool are these! Pair them with soy crayons and you are guilt free and insanity free for at least ten minutes. Just long enough to do some deep breathing and start a conversation with your hubby.
