In our 2024 trends post, we’re calling out all the things we think will be big in nursery decor this year. Checkered patterns have been trending for a while now, and we expect to continue to see the large check as well as more of its cute little sister the small check. Checked patterns are popping up everywhere, and you really can’t go wrong with a classic check, gingham or plaid in the nursery. Want to add some of these cute boxes to your nursery? Check out the checkered nursery and kids room decor below.
Checked Rugs.
Checks have been a mainstay on floors for decades. From tiles to linoleum, the high-contrast checked pattern is a classic choice for the floor. These checked rugs would add a playful but cool vibe to any kids space.
Checked Wallpaper and Gingham Wallpaper.
As you scroll through this post you’ll find lots of different options for checked or gingham patterned wallpaper, both in bold color choices and more subtle, low contrast selections. You can go for a large check or a small check. Gingham tends to be a little softer, giving a cozy cabin feel or a preppy look. Sharp contrasted checks feel inherently cool and confident.
Poufs.
These poufs, somewhere between a check and a plaid, can add a touch of texture and pattern to the room without overwhelming the space.
Gingham Print Gliders.
We are loving this trend on gliders. Make it preppy or homey depending on your own personal preference. It fits right into our other trends like cottage core, and can look vintage or classic depending on how you style the rest of the space.
We love how this wallpaper below uses a more organic, imperfect checked pattern that plays with negative space. It gives off a softer look while still feeling like a classic choice.
Gingham Bedding and Blankets.
The easiest and budget-friendliest way to incorporate a nursery trend into your own room is by using baby bedding. We sell gingham and check patterned crib sheets, quilts and blankets in a variety of color options.
This Cool Kids banner adds some checks right on the wall without having to commit to a wallpaper.
Check out this mosaic tile rug for a more subtle take on the grid pattern.
Square Decals.
A lot less permanent than wallpaper, these square decals let you create your own checked pattern. Position them close together or leave them farther apart to play more with the negative space. Because they are available in different sizes and color options, can select whatever works best for you!
How do you feel about checks and gingham? We love how versatile the pattern is, and how it can easily shift from a cozy vintage to a preppy classic to an ultra cool vibe. It really all depends on your color choices and how you style it.
We can’t wait to see more of it popping up in nurseries and kids rooms this year! Be sure to post your room to our project gallery so we can see it. We often select rooms from our gallery to be featured on the blog or social media!
