A Black & White Scandinavian Nursery Reveal

Black and white nurseries have been one of the biggest requests from my clients over the past year. With the rise of gender neutral nurseries, it seems like a lot of people are feeling a bit more daring with other “neutral” color combinations. Black and white is one of my favorite color schemes for a nursery, so it’s been really fun to work on so many of them!

This nursery reveal is a project for a client of mine in Los Angeles. They wanted not only a black and white space, but they also wanted some hints of Scandinavian style. We incorporated that by using some modern furniture with light wood accents and a few more boho style pieces, as well.

By mixing black and white with gray, light wood and neutrals, the space feels warm and inviting even though it has a black accent wall.

The other thing that really helps this space feel warm and cozy is the addition of plants. If you’ve seen my work, you know I love to incorporate plants into almost every nursery I design, and this one is no different. The plants add a natural softness and freshness that helps balance the high-contrast color scheme.

One of my favorite parts of this nursery is the giant bunny floor light. Yes, it’s a light! It has both a modern and a Scandinavian feel, and adds a little sense of humor to the room.

We also had the benefit of lots of natural light in this space. The corner behind the rocker has two large windows, which have both shades and blackout curtains to allow for maximum flexibility.

What do you think? Are you daring enough for a black and white nursery?

I have never thought of combining Scandinavian style with black and white accents. A really nice effect.

Yes, I like the Black and White combo and how the light grey softens the room as Black and White alone bring such contrast and drama to a room. The grey added gives a soothing touch of peace and rest. I especially like the Bunny floor light for many reasons, both practical and artistic. Not sure that I care for the wall hanging on wall with crib as I am OCD regarding babies and dust. Possibly the plants in the room speak to that. Plants are such a nice touch. Beautiful room.
