A Budget-Friendly Way to Update Your Kid’s Bedroom

We moved to our house about six years ago. We have remodeled, and remodeled, and remodeled some more. I guess that’s just what happens when you get a new house, right? Or maybe it’s just me. But, it is true, I love to design, and I love to design for myself even more. I do take my sweet time though and try not to rush too much. But after six years, it feels like I may be actually stalling in some areas. Like, for example, my son’s room.

Marcus’ room was the only room in our house that hadn’t been painted since our move in 2012. But after we installed hardwood floors in all the rooms upstairs a couple of months ago, I thought that would be the best time to check that room off my to-do-list. It was time to go ahead, paint the room and give it a facelift as well.

The layout of the room was already great. But I wanted to create a different look for the space. I felt like a big dark wall could create a nice contrast while giving the room a big focal point. So we rolled some black paint on one of the walls and bam! What a cool feature it turned out to be.

We added new bedding, mixed up textures and patterns, and removed some of the old artwork. In the end, those were all the changes we tackled, but we still end up creating a completely different room. So, if you think your kids have outgrown their rooms, and you feel the need to do a bedroom makeover, think about giving it a fresh coat of paint, replace some of the artwork and perhaps try new bedding. Budget friendly but still impactful!
