We are touring the nursery of Edyta Czajkowska for her daughter Olivia. Edyta is the talented interior designer behind the Chicago firm Edyta & Co. and the mom of two young girls. This nursery perfectly blends sophisticated elements with childhood whimsy for a space that is as sweet as it is elegant. If you flip through Edyta’s portfolio (or swipe through her instagram), you’ll see this masterful mix of elements in many of her designs. Thank you, Edyta, for allowing us this peek into your home.
Where did you pull inspiration for your nursery design?
I love children’s rooms that are playful but feature a level of sophistication. I remember coming across a room designed by Estee Stanley—it’s actually one of her own children’s rooms—and loving the vibe and all the black touches. It definitely served as inspiration for our nursery!

What part of the design process did you enjoy the most?
Truthfully, I enjoyed all parts of designing this nursery! Having a baby is such a beautiful life event, and each stage of the design process, from imagining the space to the installation, made it so much more exciting and real. I loved seeing it come together at the end, and moreover, I loved seeing our new baby in it.

What is your favorite part or detail in your nursery?
The art. Each piece is meaningful and can be easily translated into other interior environments. It’s my hope that my daughter will want to hang onto it and hang it in her own home one day.
What is one thing that you would tell other parents to consider when starting their own nursery design project?
Strive to make it personal, yet keep it simple, then edit, edit, edit. This is the same methodology I apply to every space—nursery or otherwise!
