Celebrity Nursery Reveal: Nick Carter’s Nursery

Former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter and his wife, Lauren Kitt, welcomed son Odin back in April. Today we are getting a peek into his steampunk nursery. Nursery designer Stephanie Avila, principal and lead designer of Rockabye Mommy is here to give us the inside scoop. After designing fellow Backstreet Boy bandmate, AJ McLean’s nursery, Stephanie was a natural choice for baby Odin’s nursery. Thank you, Stephanie, for sharing with us, and congrats to the Carter family!

Did Nick and Laura have any specific requests for the nursery design?
I knew Lauren was drawn to a more sophisticated style and color palette based on our conversations and the inspiration photos that she had shared with me. The crib was a very early selection that she had made, so I kicked off the room design based around this piece.

You incorporated a gorgeous but fairly busy wallpaper into the design seamlessly. Any tips on incorporating wallpaper?
I am a repeat offender of using wallpaper. I will never present a room design without at least one option because it’s a design element that I feel can instantly transform a space with big impact through a minimal effort. This particular paper has a small repeat, however works beautifully on all walls as a soft backdrop because of the light colorway and softly rounded shapes of the vintage flying machines.

Did you encounter any challenges when creating the space? How did you overcome them?
I woke up in the middle of the night wondering how we were going to get the 40″ deep daybed into the 30″ wide door! I really thought a reselect was in my future, but luckily the geniuses at Pottery Barn designed this piece to be assembled in the room. Whew!

What did the couple love most about the finished product?
Odin’s room has a timeless and sophisticated feel that will grow with him through the years. There are so many special pieces in the nursery, but I think the Novella Crib by Nursery Works holds a special place as it was a gift from bandmate AJ McLean and his wife Rochelle.

How about you?
I love the feeling in this nursery. The room really transformed into a beautifully serene space with soft, calming tones and every piece has character—it just makes me smile. There is plenty of seating for guests to swoon over baby Odin and enjoy the space with Lauren and Nick.
