Design Reveal: Addison’s Novogratz Big Girl Room

My baby girl is about to turn six and complete her first year of elementary school! What a whirlwind this year has been. There have been a lot of growing pains for the both of us. It look us all a little while to get the hang of the everyday school routine and get used to being a little more tied down than usual (I know Pam and Melisa understand this change). I tried to resist the change in the beginning of the year, but as the seasons changed so did my attitude. And what better way to embrace change than a design project.

Near the end of last year, we revealed that Project Nursery partnered with The Novogratz on #ProjectAddi. I’ve been a longtime fan of this design savvy family and was over the moon to tap into their design knowledge. Without further ado, it’s time to FINALLY reveal the room.

Addison had a couple specific requests for her new room. First, she wanted a desk where she could do her homework without the distraction of her little brother.

But most importantly, she wanted bright, bold colors. Once I showed her the Rainbow Wrap bedding from the 9 by Novogratz collection she was immediately in love. She personally requested the turquoise bed. I love that even at a young age she knows that blue isn’t just for boys.

Both Addison and I agree that our favorite part of the room is the reading nook. The 9 by Novogratz’s Chevron Accent Chair is a great place for her to curl up with a book now that she’s learning to read on her own. She named the deer wall sculpture Joe. Addi claims he watches over her room while she’s away.

I am especially proud of the DIY ombre dresser. With a little chalk paint and some help from a crafty friend, I was able to transform an old dresser into a fabulous new piece. I have to admit, I even surprised myself. Here’s the tutorial.

The details really pull this room together. Pam and Melisa worked with me to select items from The PN Shop to add the finishing touches. The pink heart decals make the accent wall pop.

As hard as it was to come to terms with the fact that my little girl is growing up, it does make my heart smile every time I walk into her new space.

Addison and I want to extend a huge thanks to The Novogratz; we couldn’t be happier with how the room turned out. It’s sassy with a vibrant touch. Thanks also to Pam and Melisa for holding my hand throughout the design process. Addi is one happy little girl!
