Design Reveal: Tori’s Nursery

Designing a nursery for a friend or family member is always special, but when it came time to set up my sister’s nursery for her little girl, I could not have been more excited. Here is a first look at Tori’s nursery furnished by Bellini.

My sister has very traditional taste and wanted an elegant and feminine nursery for her little girl. I think initially we both assumed she would choose white for the crib and nursery furniture; however she was instantly attracted to the deep rich tones of the espresso finish. Against the pale palette of the rest of the room, the furniture really pops, which adds a sense of drama.

She chose the Mercedes Crib, a convertible crib featuring an old fashioned spindle rail. The Whisper bedding set, designed by Nava’s Designs, has an almost bridal feel—elegant but not overdone. Above the crib, you can see a simple floral collage accented with crystals, created by a wonderful NY-based artist, Sam Simon.

The fabulous and comfy chair we picked is from one of my favorite companies, Little Castle. The Cottage Reclining Glider is like sitting on a cloud with a reclining option (you almost won’t mind midnight feedings!). It’s done in a heavenly fabric from Angel Song called Aspen Creme and is piped in a coordinating pink. The crystal lamp, by Maura Daniels, is available in tons of sizes and shapes.

Her dresser, armoire and bookcase are from the Bellini Carly collection. With french legs, crystal knobs and intricate carvings, this line is pure girl. Above the changing table, my sister chose coordinating letters by Lot a Spots, which can be made to match any decor.

My niece is four months old now, and I still love sitting in her room. It’s so serene and special, and I know it will be a place she will love growing up in.

I really like the choice of furniture, it’s not only traditional but very elegant and anything but ‘baby-ish’, so it can be used for years. The espresso finish also brings a totally different feel to a nursery which otherwise might have been too pink for my taste!

It used to be that people stayed away from espresso tones when it comes to nursery furniture, but am glad that I’ve seen rooms like yours where dark colored finishes added elegance and beauty to the room.
