Baby’s First Heirloom

It’s true that Melisa and I gravitate towards modern nursery design but that doesn’t mean we don’t have a soft spot for classic pieces that remind us of our own childhood. Traditional pieces mixed in with modern is actually our favorite style. When I first learned about Belle & Blue, a small European company that makes fine furniture for children’s rooms I was interested in learning more about what made their designs special. When I received one of their hand crafted child sized chairs in the mail it immediately reminded me of something you would find in a nursery from a classical era.

Belle & Blue wants to give children a chance to remember their first furniture pieces with a warm feeling even when they are all grown up.  All of their furniture pieces, small tables, chairs and toy boxes, feature colorful artwork that has been designed and hand painted by European artists.

These solid birch wood pieces are built to last and are ideal if you are planning to save items from the nursery to pass on to future generations. Wouldn’t it be fun to tell your child that you sent away for a piece of fine European furniture for their first room?

I personally believe that baby furniture should make heirloom pieces. We should invest in pieces that our babies will be able to use for their own babies after many years. This will be something they will really appreciate in the future.

I agree with Dia. It would be really great if certain pieces we include in our nurseries are good enough to last decades. There should be something that our babies could keep when they become parents themselves. This is one of the greatest gifts we could give them. It’s just sad that some families don’t have enough room to store furniture pieces when they are no longer in use.
