Best Hanukkah Ever: My First Silver Tea Set

To get us in the mood for the holidays, over the next few weeks, our Project Nursery experts and contributors will be sharing favorite holiday gifts that either they received as a child or their children received. Join in on the conversation. What was your favorite gift?

With the holidays fast approaching and my shopping efforts in full swing, it’s prompted me to take a stroll down memory lane to remember my most special childhood Hanukkah gift. I’ll tell you this much, I have had some very memorable holidays, and it was difficult to pick just one favorite gift. There was the Western Barbie, complete with cowboy boots and lasso, and my very first pink silky nightgown with matching robe, which made me feel like a truly fancy little lady. However, it was a miniature silver tea set that holds the trophy for best Hanukkah gift ever.

My dainty little set, almost identical to the one above, must have been the start of my lifelong obsession with all things British and miniature. To this day, I love a good pot of tea, and much to my husband’s dismay, I keep my collection of antique tea cups stored in the basement. If you happen to find yourself in San Francisco and also love a little tea time, you must visit the most darling and chic spot for tea, Crown & Crumpet. I think I might have to saunter over for a little cheerio with my kiddies for the holidays.

There are plenty of tea sets on the market for little ones today, from soft and safe sets for the youngest crews to ceramic sets for fancier tea parties.

I plan to have special tea afternoons with my daughter someday, when she’s grown up and can already sip tea as finely as a true English lady.
