Under the Sea Birthday Party

“Under The Sea” is one of those timeless birthday party themes.  Perfect for a boy or girl, you can interpret it so many different ways….bright, bold colors, cartoons such as Disney’s Little Mermaid or Finding Nemo.  Today’s inspiration is a preppy party for the sea that focuses on pale blues, lime greens and lots of bubbles!

The darling little fish on this invitation from WH Hostess sets the tone for the party.  Pale blue, turquoise, and lime green create a sophisticated, yet whimsical color palette that is sure to delight your guests young and old.  Focus your decorations around circle shaped-items – paper lanterns, or circle garlands – to look like bubbles.

Cut out fish, octopus, crabs and starfish out of colored fondant to decorate the tops of your cupcakes.  If the idea of working with fondant intimidates you, there are some darling cupcake toppers out there that would work for this theme: little fish toppers by WH Hostess that match the invitation, or stuffed felt fish toppers.  Serve your food on blue, polka dotted plates…it will make your food look like it’s floating in water!

Send the kids home with a fish-in-a-bag soap as a party favor.  I love this idea for presenting your party favors: fill a footed bowl with blue vase gems, and place your soaps in the bowl.  It adds to our “bubble” theme!    Oh, and if you are looking for some coordinating birthday outfits for the guest of honor, check out babyGap….they have the cutest little fish items!

I love the fish in a bag soaps display with the blue gems. I’ve used these soaps as party favors before, and they were a big hit.

Bubbles and bubble bath are great favors for an underwater party, too. Here are some pics that coordinate with this theme.
