Design Reveal: See Ya On The Green

When Eliott’s dad found out he was expecting a little boy, visions of perfectly manicured greens and Callaway golf clubs danced in his head. He knew the nursery needed to be golf, golf, and more golf. Mom Amanda decided  that the golf theme didn’t have to be kooky and successfully created a beautiful nursery for Elliot filled with tons of green including a golf course mural, crisp white furniture and preppy plaid window treatments. If you are thinking of a themed nursery this is the perfect way to learn how to do it without going over the top!

What was your inspiration for the room?
My husband loves golf so when we found out we were having a boy I started looking for golf themed items for the nursery. I found a wonderful rocking golf cart by Kidcraft (now discontinued) and decided to “build” the room around it. I picked colors and patterns that I thought could grow with my son. I also tried to keep from over doing the theme by incorporating lots of animals into the mural, and by not using the golf theme every where – i.e. no golf ball drawer pulls or sheets here.

What best describes your decorating style?
Generally my style is eclectic – modern sensibility with vintage accents. Elliot’s room is whimsical meets preppy.

Please with us choice of paint colors, furniture, art, DIY tips, etc.
Rather than painting the top half of the mural blue and the bottom half green I went with a dark and light shade of the same green. This kept the room from feeling too “literal”. Painting the mural was pretty tedious and I put off painting the golf carts until my third trimester. At that point it simply wasn’t going to happen, so I commissioned Etsy seller, Elephannie to make some primary colored golf cart decals for me. I love the way they turned out. I also used Curved Painter’s Tape, which I used to paint the cart path – it saved a lot of time! The decals were one of the educational tools I integrated into the design. I also painted golf flags in the mural. Now that my Elliot is learning to talk he loves practicing his colors and numbers in his room. I also took advantage of the door to the room by making it a rotating gallery of Elliot’s art. All it took was some ribbon, finishing nails, and clothes pins.

What is your favorite item(s) in the room?
I love the little slipper chair. I found it at an estate sale in college and had been waiting to find the perfect place for it. I had it reupholstered (it was purple velvet)to match the bedding and window treatments. It is low enough that now Elliot can climb up into it to “read” his books. I also love the alligator bookends . They are some of the many alligators that Elliot has acquired since his birth. Lastly, I love the mobile I made using the cards we received when Elliot was born. I recently highlighted the project on my blog, www.namesakedesign.blogspot.com.

Is there anything else you would like PN readers to know?
Every design detail in Elliot’s room was a labor of love. I sewed all of the bedding and window treatments, painted the mural, and painted some furniture pieces that were from my nursery. It was so much fun and it has made his room such a special place to play and spend time together.

I love it. Although I’d recommend adding astroturf on the ground and maybe even drilling in a few holes.

I have sampled pretty much every golf club label and therefore decided these kind of golf clubs are the best there may be,along with the fresh units coming onto the market of late it definately is tough to make your mind up exactly what to end up getting. Believe that I will choose a number of them along in order to get accustomed to playing with those to discover should they’re definitely worth investing in a full set up.
