Baby H’s Nursery

Description

A clean, modern, DIY nursery for our lil man.

Design Inspiration

Early on I knew I wanted the ever-so-popular grey, yellow, and chevron color themed room. However, when we found out we were having a boy I was inspired by the Mumford and Sons song title 'Little Lion Man' and started researching and pinning all things lion that soon expanded to giraffe and elephant losing the chevron but holding on to the color scheme. Many hours pinning and researching Project Nursery inspired all the little additions to the room.

Decorating Style

We are definitely functional and DIYers when it comes to home furnishing. I wanted a room that would be fun to create, that I would enjoy spending time in with my lil man, and could grow with him through the years.

Project Details

I started with purchasing the crib as soon as I found out I was pregnant and opted for a modern crib with amber and white colors which continued throughout the room.  We then moved onto adding crown molding, wainscoting, and painting the walls grey (all we did ourselves). Once the walls were completed we moved onto other smaller DIY projects and adding special touches to complete his room.

Furniture mostly came from Ikea Hemnes Dresser, Poang Rocking Chair, Bjornloka Rand pillow cover, and Malm Queen Bed Frame. I stained and changed the knobs on the Hemnes dresser to add a more custom look and we made the book shelves ourselves inspired by the overly pinned Bekvam Spice racks.  They were sold out in all Northern Ca Ikea's so we decided one evening to make them ourselves.  I also used the Skubb clothes organizers in the dresser drawers to organize his tiny onesies, diapers, and all other newborn necessities.

Bedding Guest Bed Bedding is Pottery Barn Duvet Cover (on clearance) and the Muslin Crib sheet was found on Zulily from Bambino Land Jungle Animal Boy with matching swaddle blankets received as a shower gift.

Pouf found on One Kings Lane and I added an Elephant patch to have it match the rooms theme - One King's Lane

Prints and Extras came from Etsy shops. Sarah Jane Studios prints of the Lion and Giraffe with boy; Lollipopmoon handmade the Jungle Mobile in custom colors to match the nursery; Sherryann Shop for the Elephant Print on Vintage Dictionary page; and MoMaCreates Shop made the grey minky dot change pad cover and White elephant patch for the pouf -

Chevron Rug is from Urban Outfitters - http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=20659470&parentid=A_FURN_RUGS

Crib is Baby Mod ParkLand 3in1 in Amber from Walmart

Letter Blocks a gift from my sister is from Sugar Babies in Washington. I also purchased the super cute elephant from there - http://www.shopsugarbabies.com/

Favorite Items

I am fortunate to be married to a super handy man husband.  He installed the wainscoting, crown molding, and painted the walls of the nursery which transformed a bland guest room into a lovely baby nursery (see before picture).  I also love the custom shelving in the closet that my husband made. Previously it was a 100 year old home tiny closet but now it is functional and beautiful to look at.  I don't know if I have a favorite item because I love it all and how my vision came to fruition.  Mostly, I love that I love spending time reading to my lil man rocking in the chair looking around his room remembering all the planning we did for the this day to come.

Advice

Start early, gather ideas from PN, create pin boards, have fun, and keep it simple. At one point I had too many ideas and themes that it all became too overwhelming. Narrow your ideas down to reduce the risk of clutter and chaos.  I say start early because I was sanding and staining the dresser at 9 months pregnant which I don't recommend, not fun but it was worth all the hard work.

The animal mobile is so cute! Looking at it makes me want to get some felt and make little animals.
