We at Project Nursery know that many moms share the dream of starting their own business to try to find that elusive balance between work and family life. Rebecca is going to share a little about her journey with us.   Well, I feel like life has been in fast-forward for the last four years...in a good way. Bear with me, as I give you some background. Four years ago, our first kiddo was welcomed into our party of two. Six weeks after his birth, I was back to work. Eighteen months later, we said hello to the second addition to our family; eight weeks after Blake was born, I took a leap and decided that returning to my full-time job was not the answer to filling my "creative bucket." It was during this time that Fresh Chick Design Studio was born. This was the answer to allow me to stay at home with my kiddos AND give me the time I needed and wanted to fulfill my creativity. Scary? Of course! I had no idea what direction things would go, but I knew one thing, I was loving what I was doing workwise and in love with being a mama of two boys. Then, twenty months later, along came the third and final bambino. So yes, I have my own business and three kids three years old and under. I can say it has been quite the balancing act. A year ago, I petitioned my BFF to come onboard …

Serena-Lily-Bedding

A few weeks ago, Serena & Lily hosted a Summer Celebration party at Lily Kanter's beautiful home to highlight pieces from the Summer 2012 collection. You know we love a great party! It was an honor to see all of the beautiful S&L products showcased in Lily's home—the quality and originality of Serena & Lily's signature styles were really brought to life in this intimate setting. We wanted to share this experience with you. We really fell in love with the new girls bedding from Serena & Lily's Ramona collection. Reinterpreting a traditional Indian damask, the bedding is sophisticated and chic but still girly in every way. Using these linens on your daughter's bed is an easy and quick way to spring into summer! Lily's house, as you might imagine, is one of the most special and tastefully designed homes we've ever seen. Everything from the unique fabrics to the beautiful color tones to the interesting mix of furniture pieces makes it so eclectic and worldy feeling. The transition from indoor to outdoor spaces is harmonious and makes you want to sit back, relax and enjoy for a long time. We couldn't get over the new hanging rattan chair—so cool! Photo Credit: Savvy in San Francisco Photography Photo Credit: Savvy in San Francisco Photography As guests were leaving, we were handed goody bags that included these terrific Corsica table linens. We're already putting them to great outdoor entertaining use since they are lightweight and perfect for adding a color pop …

BabyBjorn Baby Carrier Miracle

I’ll never forget my first days of parenthood back in 2005 when we were living in New York City. Two weeks after we’d brought our baby girl home from the hospital, my husband had to go back to work. The thought of venturing out of the confines of our baby-stocked apartment on my own was slightly terrifying. That’s when it hit me. The ticket to my freedom was sitting right in the closet in a little box, and it was called the BabyBjorn. I had seen parents all over Manhattan proudly toting their newborns around in these same Bjorn carriers. After all, isn’t wearing your baby like a badge of honor a rite of passage in parenthood? The rest is history. I was already madly in love with my sweet baby girl, but now I was falling hard for my trusty BabyBjorn carrier too! Now, fast forward to 2012, and if you can believe it, this classic design has improved! The brand new BabyBjorn Baby Carrier Miracle has become even more comfortable with added waist straps for support, and with multiple carrying options, baby and parent will always be happy. The updated design is thanks to decades of thoughtful research and collaboration with both parents and medical experts. You can comfortably wear this carrier for extended periods of time. Safe for newborns, you won’t need to purchase any additional insert pieces. It’s simply the only baby carrier you’ll need to buy. Since the carrier comes in neutral colors, my husband …

Mother Feeding Baby

Hiring a nanny is super stressful. I know, I've been there. These are a few helpful questions to ask when in search of Mary Poppins: Start with a telephone interview. State the start date, hours and salary. If your alarm bell is going off or this person is not a good fit, move on. If you like the answers the prospective nanny is giving you, discuss the responsibilities you’re looking for. You'll go into greater detail in person when you meet face-to-face. General Questions and Topics to Discuss with Your Potential Nanny: Describe your ideal family/employer. How do you comfort children? How do you deal with separation anxiety? How do you discipline a child? Give me an example of a previous discipline problem and how you handled it. How do you feel about playdates, and what are your favorite activities to do with a child? Discuss your expectations on the types of activities that you want your child to be involved with throughout the week. Do you smoke? If so, bye bye. Are you willing to do light chores while the child is sleeping? Be very clear what housework you would like to be done if they're willing to do any. This can get sticky once you hire a nanny if they were not expecting to take on the required housework. Tension can mount very quickly. Note that it is typical for a full-time nanny to straighten and/or clean the child's space. Will you stay late? Babysit on the weekend? …

White Oeuf Sparrow Crib

Can we just say, we love this crib? Oeuf is known for creating baby furniture with clean lines and modern style, and this fabulous crib is no different. Oeuf has teamed up with Project Nursery to offer our readers the chance to win their super popular Sparrow Crib in white (a $730 value!). Its thin spindles and trim profile provide a light and airy feel, allowing it to fit seamlessly into your nursery's decor. As the mom of a still pretty new baby (four months!), I love that the design allows you to see your baby easily for all those reassuring peeks you know you are going to be making from the doorway. The small footprint of this crib helps you use your nursery space efficiently whether you have a lot or a little, and with a crib like this, you are going to be inspired to build a gorgeous nursery around it to match the crib's impeccable style. The Sparrow Crib is easily assembled by one person, and it allows for three different mattress positions. It also has an overall lower height, which believe me, when you start laying your twenty pound baby down, your back will be very grateful for. With its quality craftsmanship and sturdy materials, you can feel safe putting your baby in this eco-friendly crib that features a non-toxic, no-VOC finish. WIN IT! One lucky Project Nursery reader will win the Oeuf Sparrow Crib in white (a $730 value!). HOW TO ENTER: Visit Oeuf, and let …

ABlissfulNest-Pool Party

It's that time of year! I love the summer months. Not only is it my family's (yes all of us!) birthday season, it's also time for spending beautiful weekends by the pool with family and friends. To get you in the mood, I want to share some essentials for a pool party playdate that the whole family, including the little ones, will love. First, choose summery colors in fun, modern patterns and use them in your party decorations as well as other fun accents like towels, napkins and flowers. Next, select foods that are fun and yummy for all. We chose a lemon meringue pie, Rice Krispie treats, popcorn and Italian sodas.   Oh, and we can't forget cupcakes! The perfect sized dessert for little mouths. Fun parasols to help shade guests and create a little fun are a must. Hit up places like World Market and Target for fabulous, fun finds like these. Lastly, add comfy pillows for your weary little guests to use towards the end of the day. So, who is ready for a little fun in the sun and some pool time with friends?!
