BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance Goes Retro

Bringing home baby also means bringing home loads of “stuff.” While the nursery is the logical room to house baby’s new gear, let’s face it folks, it will inevitably spill into your living room. Cut through the newborn fog a couple of weeks later, and suddenly you find yourself under the attack of unattractive bouncers in animal prints with flashing lights. Team Project Nursery is throwing up the red flag here and suggests starting with a single, classic baby seat—the BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance.

Forget sacrificing your design sense just because you’re a parent now. There’s something to be said about a company that’s been in business for 50 years and remains a leader in style. In honor of BabyBjorn’s big 5-0 celebration, they have revealed three limited-edition fabric choices with some serious ’70s retro flair for a twist on their timeless bouncer.

There’s no question that in the design world, mid-century modern is in high demand and retro remains cool. So why not go with a bouncer that truly complements your lifestyle and the rooms in your home?

But then again, it’s not just about the good looks. The Babysitter Balance offers proper back and head support for baby, and because it’s not motorized, it helps your child to develop motor skills and balance. In fact, it’s the child that sets the pace. With three different positions and compact folding for storage, it shows that BabyBjorn is a true testament to both style and functionality.

Holy sugar that bouncer is ugly. I get that retro is big but brown and orange just looks so dated. The beige one is tolerable.

I like the retro vibe. Paired with the right modern furniture, I think it will look cool.

Melisa: Thank you for this. I think that a lot of new moms would certainly appreciate the fact that having a baby does not necessarily have to put a crimp on their design styles.

While reading this, I was going to ask just how safe it is for the baby since it looked like it didn’t have the proper back and head support. Thanks for the clarification. This is not just a lovely item but also a useful one. I could also see how you could repurpose this into something else once baby grows into toddlerhood.

Hmn…. To be honest I don’t know if I really like this look or not. Objectively, I think the design and the colors are fine, but knowing it’s retro, I am not sure. I really don’t like retro stuff, so maybe the “retro” title has just affected my judgment negatively.
