In the Nursery with Wit & Delight

We’re so pleased to be sharing this special nursery with you all today. It’s Kate Arends’ nursery for her baby daughter Bennett. You probably know Kate, a talented graphic designer and entrepreneur, through her site Wit & Delight. There you can find a mix of design inspiration, personal essays and more on everything from parenting to careers. You may have even seen some of Wit & Delight’s products on the shelves of your local Target. Now you can find a collection of W&D paper products and art prints in their very own shop. We love the unusual color palette in this baby girl nursery—it feels both nostalgic and modern all at once. Best of all, it looks beautifully inviting and cozy—a perfect place for a little girl to play and grow. Thank you, Kate, for sharing with us!

Where did you pull inspiration for your nursery design?
My inspiration came from a color combination we loved! Green and pink felt like a wonderful way to draw inspiration from nature, incorporate an unexpected palette and still feel feminine.

What part of the design process did you enjoy the most?
I love that moment when you can clearly see the final product in your head.

What is your favorite part or detail in your nursery?
The pink upholstered bench I made. We created one to store toys on our main level, too. If you’re looking to make one of these yourself, we have a tutorial on W&D!

What is one thing that you would tell other parents to consider when starting their own nursery design project?
Consider the fact you will be spending A LOT of time, mostly at night, in this nursery. It’s important that you have a comfortable place to sit. I have a lot of first-time moms who are concerned about designing a space that is ready to be shot for a magazine, but the reality is that you need this space to be enjoyable, special AND functional. Don’t forget that!
