Over on our sister site Project Nursery, we suggest keeping the big kid room in mind when designing a nursery. For one, you’re creating a design you love, why not keep it for more than a couple years? Plus, let’s be honest, it’s a whole lot easier on the budget. With the right forethought, you can make a seamless transition from nursery to big kid room by just changing out a few details here and there.
Patchi Cancado, of Trendy Peas, provided a great example of how well this can be done in our gallery—a beloved nursery on Project Nursery has come full circle to big boy room on Project Junior.
First things first, the crib is replaced with a big boy bed.
The little woodland friend and mobile get swapped out…
…for cool geometric decals and clear book ledges for a few favorite books.
Here’s where Patchi’s genius plan of creating this IKEA hack dresser/changing table/desk made the transition a snap. Simply remove the changing pad and…
…you’ve got a space just right for future homework sessions and current art projects.
While the design is overall the same, a few changes here and there really elevate the space from baby to big boy.

Which items from ikea did you use for the change table/desk hack? https://projectnursery.com/2016/02/how-to-transition-a-nursery-into-a-big-boy-room/

Hi I’m wondering where you got the wood from for the desk top? Love the look you did here!
