A Healthy Smoothie Your Kids Will Love

Did you ever expect to hear your kids scream and beg for a healthy, kale smoothie? Of course not, but when you spin it as the “Green Monster Drink” coined by my then three-year-old and five-year-old, it makes it seem so much tastier doesn’t it? I’ve been making this smoothie recipe for years thanks to my mom who decided she could convince my kids to actually like kale on a whim, and I can’t thank her enough. The ingredients are simple, and best of all, picky kiddos won’t be able to taste this vitamin-packed super food.

Kids Kale Smoothie

First, remove stems and roughly chop the kale.

Tip: Kale comes in ginormous bunches, and I can’t seem to get my husband to join me for dinner over a kale salad. To save time for future veggie smoothies, pack sandwich size ziplock baggies with the excess kale and freeze.

Blend 3 cups of chopped kale with 1 cup of water in a blender until smooth.

noname-3

Add 2 large spoonfuls of greek yogurt if you prefer your smoothies to be thick and creamy. Next, add handfuls of chopped fruit until the blender is nearly full. My go-to mix is pineapple, berries and ripe bananas the kids wouldn’t otherwise eat.

noname-4

To sweeten the plain yogurt a bit, add 2 tbsp of honey (or a drizzle of agave syrup) and 1 cup of juice such as orange juice. This however is completely optional and based on the sweetness of your fruit. I will often omit this extra need for sugar if I am using melon, for example, and will simply add water to get the blender moving.

noname-5

Blend away. Your blender should be near full. Top it off with some ice cubes.

And enjoy!
