Color, and Pattern, and Superheroes, Oh My!

Hello friends! I am so excited to share my latest room reveal for my youngest little. With three boys, one is always coming into a stage while another is leaving a stage of growing up. When I had the first two, I was so on top of my design game. I mean, come on—I had their toddler rooms planned before their first birthdays! As far as the third kiddo, mama seems to be working in slow motion these days. What’s the phrase? Better late than never, right? So here I am sharing the last toddler room that I will design for one of my own, and I love that he had so much to say about the components of the design.

We moved into our house a couple of years ago, and that’s when we ditched his crib and opted for a junior-sized bed—it’s a little bit bigger than a toddler bed but a smidgen smaller than a twin. His room is pretty small, so it was the perfect choice for right now. The older two have never really had much of a care as to how they wanted their rooms, but this little guy has an obsession with ALL things superhero. He wants superhero EVERYTHING, which in design chat is somewhat nightmarish to me. It’s not because I don’t think they are awesome, but I’ve just never been one for character themes. So my goal was to design a superhero toddler room that spoke both of our love languages.

My inspiration for the room came from the these prints I found on allposters.com—they’re modern and incorporate the perfect amount of theme to please a picky toddler and a stubborn mom.

Next, I found this AHHHH-MAZING lightning bolt marquee from Saw & Steel and thought it would be perfect for above his bed—so cute, right?

Other than a theme for a room, I have always thought it’s important to include little elements of things my kids love, whether it be literal or implied. My little B is not only obsessed with superheroes, but he also has a love for rainbows. I walked up on this little rainbow pillow at Target for $3! Yes friends, three bucks, and for that price, it was a must and the perfect little element to add to his bed.

For his nightstand, I picked up this cute metal cabinet from IKEA—it’s the perfect pop of green and a great piece for him to store all of his little treasures.

One of my favorite elements in the space is the wall detail. I wanted to add some interest to the wall with some vinyl decals and paint detail. I used colors from his favorite superheroes and came up with this fun graphic design. The blue represents Captain America, the green is for Hulk and the black dots are for Wolverine.

For the stripes, I used painter’s tape and wall paint, and for the dots, I used black vinyl dots that I cut from my Cricut machine.

The minute I finished the wall, my little guy could totally see my vision and LOVED it! Mission accomplished! So here is one last look at how his superhero toddler room turned out.
