A Palm Springs-Inspired Playhouse that will Make You Want to Move Right In

When the topic of Christmas gifts arose sometime last fall, my husband and I decided an outdoor playhouse would be the perfect toddler gift for Brody. We searched high and low for a playhouse that would fit the vibe of our home. One that wasn’t too colorful or too country. One that felt like a miniature extension of our home.

Since we couldn’t find exactly what we were looking for, we set out to give a classic wooden playhouse a modern facelift. It was one of those projects that snowballed into a much larger (and more time-consuming) undertaking than we had originally planned, but the end result and the joy it has brought Brody have been more than worth the effort.

The entire months of December and January passed by with a half-built, half-painted playhouse sitting on the patio, but we finally finished! Let’s just say that this Christmas gift turned into a Valentine’s Day gift. Thank goodness for understanding toddlers!

Palm Springs-Inspired Playhouse with Planters and Juice Bar

Inspired by Palm Springs, we decided to paint the exterior and interior of the playhouse white. We transformed one of the window openings into a little juice bar. The striped awning was added on and so was an extension to the windowsill, creating the perfect little table space.

Brody’s favorite part of the whole playhouse? The two succulents we planted in the pots next to the front door. He loves to water them every day. Perhaps these will be the first plants ever to stay alive in our backyard?
