A Feminine and Serene Nursery Inspired by Monet

We are excited to congratulate another Project Nursery team member Dana on her newest addition, baby daughter Emilia! And you know what that means—another nursery design reveal! Of course, we asked Dana to share all the details. Here she is to give you the scoop on her Monet-themed nursery.

My inspiration for Emilia’s nursery came five years ago while in Paris. On our third day, we enjoyed croque monsieur and wine at a nearby park before visiting the Musee de I’Orangerie on the Seine River. Claude Monet’s water lilies were featured there and at that point, I turned to my husband and said, “This will be our daughter’s nursery some day.” Fast forward four years later and dreams do come true! As soon as I found out we were blessed with a little girl, the nursery preparation was off to a fast start. I wanted to make it as feminine and serene as possible.

We featured two Monet prints, “The Artist’s Garden” and “The Japanese Bridge,” to pull in the theme, and I went with the grayish lavender for the wall color (Behr’s Satire) as a backdrop. My overall color scheme was gray, white and lavender with pops of everything else.

I used some inexpensive shelves to place some of my favorite items on them as part of the gallery wall.

My talented sister-in-law designed the floral mobile for my baby sprinkle, and it tied the room together perfectly.

I selected DaVinci’s Lila Crib in (slate with pebble gray fabric) because I love the upholstered side panels and the colors worked perfectly in the space.

My advice when designing a nursery would be to do what you love. Pick a theme and go with it. Start out with the furniture and some great artwork, and the rest will just fall into place!
