Keep Baby’s Ears Warm With This DIY Winter Headband

Baby, it’s COLD outside. But sometimes baby doesn’t want to wear a bulky winter hat. Sometimes baby just wants her ears to be warm and let her locks fly free. I mean, seriously, what could be more stylish than a toddler in this adorable DIY winter headband? Sew one up today to add to your baby’s wardrobe this season!

Materials: 1/8 yard printed stretchy fabric (knit, fleece, etc.), 1/8 yard faux fur (or soft sherpa wool-type fabric), scissors, thread, pins, sewing machine

*All seam allowances are 1/2″, unless otherwise indicated.

Using the general sizing guide below, cut two long rectangles for the main headband—one from your printed fabric and one from your faux fur fabric.

Baby: 14″ x 2.5″
Toddler: 16″ x 3″
Child (4-6): 18″ x 3.5″
Older Child (7-9): 20″ x 4″

Also, cut a piece of the printed fabric to 3.5″ x 4″ for the faux knot loop.

We’re going to make the faux knot loop first. Fold your fabric in half long-ways (matching up the 4″ edges) and sew.

Because we’re using non-fraying fabric (like knit or fleece), we’re going to trim off the excess seam to reduce bulk.

It only took me about 30 minutes to whip up three of these DIY winter headbands—they’re such a quick and stylish accessory to keep those precious ears warm this winter. They’re also a great way to use up scrap fabrics from other projects! Just be sure that the fabrics you choose have some stretch to them, otherwise they won’t slip onto baby’s head as easily.
