This is Not Your Grandmother’s Dollhouse

When Jen found out that she was having a girl (after having two wonderful boys and growing up with ALL brothers), she was thrilled! Ever since she was little, she’s always wanted a dollhouse, so that’s high on her priority list for accents for her daughter’s nursery. Of course a newborn can’t play with a dollhouse right away, but what if it functioned as storage first, and then she decorated it a few years later? Brilliant!

We’ve been scouring the internet and Pinterest boards for dollhouse storage inspiration, and there are some mighty fine ideas out there. Here are our favorites—we hope they inspire you too!

We love the idea of storing little treasures below the dollhouse like baskets full of dolls, clothes and extra furniture, and this piece is great inspiration. The space up top would be so fun to decorate with colorful papers and furniture, and you could even add a patio or two! We love that this dollhouse is gender neutral, so depending on the decor, little boys could use it as well!

If you’re looking for something a little more classic, how about making your own? This dollhouse from Pottery Barn Kids is no longer available (you can find similar style here and here), but if you’re as crafty as Amy Sue I Love You, you could create one of your own. It would be so much fun to embellish in hues of coral, navy, yellow and green!

This tree-shaped bookcase is amazing inspiration for storage in a woodland themed bedroom for a little boy or a little girl. We like the idea of little fairies or woodland animals living here.

We love this idea. It’s a metal dollhouse with a vintage vibe that would be perfect for a super hero themed room (psst, Batman? Spiderman?).
