Baking cupcakes or creating a special treat just for the kiddos is a small gesture that goes a long way in my household. Now that February is upon us, I baked a super easy heart-shaped cake for Valentine’s Day. Here’s the quick how-to—the best part is that you only need things that you likely already own, and it’s oh-so clever!
It’s all about using the right baking pans. Use an 8- or 9-inch square pan and a complementary round pan. Bake your favorite cake recipe in both pans, or if time is of the essence, a single boxed cake mix is just fine.
After your cakes cool, cut the round cake in half. Rotate the square cake so it’s oriented like a diamond, and place the half circles along the top sides of the diamond.
Voila! It’s a heart. If you need to trim the edges a bit (as seen here), no problem.
Lastly, frost with your favorite buttercream icing, and decorate with love, which is coconut in this household.
Now sit back and watch their eyes pop out of their heads when they say, “Wow! Mom, how did you do that?”
