Customized KURA Bed

We’re getting ready to move into a new home, and the room planning has officially begun! I’m gearing up for a few DIY projects for my boys’ new bedroom, and I wanted to let you guys in on the planning phase. First things first—I’m definitely going to use the KURA reversible bed from IKEA.

The problem is, I don’t want to use the bed as is—I want to add a little custom flair to it. In my search for inspiration, one of my favorite designs for a customized KURA bed came from my girls over at J & J Design Group. Isn’t this bed fabulous? I love how the neutral color they chose to paint the bed fits seamlessly into the room’s design and allows the colorful artwork and accents to pop.

I’m happy to report that the panels now come standard in white (they used to be blue), leaving you with the perfect blank slate for a makeover. I’ve decided to paint the frame white, and I’d love to cover the panels with patterned vinyl to add color and interest.

This is the perfect starter bed for your toddler who is begging for a big boy/girl bunk bed. And the best part is that it’s only $199! Not ready for a bunk? That’s okay, it’s reversible! Here are a few other images of rooms with the KURA bed with mattresses on both the top and bottom to inspire you.

Tips for painting this type of bed? Will be our first attempt & going to stick with white since her walls will be rockport grey or revere pewter!
